Yamoah’s Band – Fa Asem Kye

Until today we only had two records with leading
Ghanaian highlife figure Peter Kwabena Yamoah
and his Yamoah’s Band. More or less five years ago
and ten years ago. Being responsible for the discovery
of Nana Kwame Ampadu and his African Brothers Band,
Yamoah was a highlife pioneer. He founded his band in
1957. Crate digging in Paris I recently found this splendid
record wich contains some hot highlife tunes ..
Tot de dag van vandaag hadden we slechts twee platen
met highlife grootheid Peter Kwabena Yamoah en zijn
Yamoah’s Band. Zo’n vijf jaar en tien jaar geleden alweer.
Yamoah was een highlife pionier die o.a. mede verantwoor-
delijk was voor de ontdekking van Nana Kwame Ampadu
and his African Brothers Band. Hij begon zijn groep in 1957.
Crate digging in Prijs onlangs vond ik deze pracht plaat
welke enkele fantastische tunes bevat ..

Absolute classic. By this time agyaaku had left the band. The brilliant keyboard
work makes up for absence.
Yamoah’s Band! … thank you for this great gift, just the right music for this holiday monday.
Love these guys. One of my favorite finds (along with the City Boys and Ampadu) on a visit (carefully) through the maze that is the Kumasi market. A crazy but fun-filled labrynth – the largest in Africa if I’m not mistaken. Sort of like getting lost in Fez, without as many hastlers. Thanks for posting this cracker and the two others which deserve another visit.
