I know you’ve probably got your carnaval lineup all planned out already, but I have a record that would be perfect. Here in New Orleans and there are these guys who dress up as indians and go around the city dancing and singing on the streets on carnaval day. One of the most famous indian groups- the Wild Tchoupitoulas, recorded an album of these traditional mardi gras songs in 1976. The head of this group, the “big chief jolly,” called up his nephews (Art, Aaron, Cyril, and Charles Neville, as well as the rest of the Meters) to be the backing band on the record.
My copy of the record has particular significance because it was temporarily submerged in the waters of hurricane Katrina, and although the cover is not in good shape, the actual vinyl made it through. Let me know if it would be of use. thanks
