Super Etoile 2 de Dakar – Ndeetel Weer Wi, Saprom 1986

Back in the 80’s, I once bought me some casettes of Youssou
N’Dour. Later I found they are quite rare so I decided to
check them last week. I didn’t play them for maybe more than
15 years, so it was great to find out they still work.
Let’s start with vol. 1, ‘Ndeetel Weer Wi’ from 1986.

tracks;

1 Ndeetel weer wi
2 Diiñat
3 Jimaamu
4 Warale
5 Yéndi
6 Touba

    Thanks for posting this wonderful album of Super Etoile II de Dakar, which was founded by Youssou N’Dour in 1984. That band had wondeful musicians like Manel Diop, Rhane Diallo, Malang Cissokho, Cheikh Diene and so on. Like the Etoile de Dakar, after the release of the excellent Ndeetel Weer Wi in 1986, everybody went on their own ways. Yamar Thiam, Manel Diop, Rhane Diallo, El Hadji Faye, Meissa Niang, and Cheikh Diene went with Hasse Walli in Finland. They were very successful in the beginning with the song Subanna by Manel Diop. After Asamaan, Rhane, Yamar, and Malang Cissokho went to Galaxy in Finland. I know Boy Gris ( the drummer of Youssou N’Dour between 1981 and 1985) was on the first solo album of Manel Diop which turned out to be very successful in Senegal. Also, Manel, Rhane, and Kabou were previously musicians of Youssou N’Dour in the early 80’s. Ibou Cisse will join later the Super Etoile de Dakar. Kabou will be in You’s staff at Jololi.

    I think I will have to come back often to see your explanations, thanks Mouhamadou, but I still asking myself, who plays the winds?
    Perhaps Thierno Kouate y. ..

    This tape has a style that reminds me of the El Hadj Ndiaga Mbaye.

    The more I hear, the more I like it.

    Yes Ngoni, Thierno Kouate plays the winds in Jimaamu. By the way, it’s a wonderful song. Unfortunately after that, Alla Seck passed away in 1987. Super Etoile lost a great musician.

    This, band Super Etoile 2, was set up by youssou to play in his night club, Thiosane, in Dakar, while he was off touring the world. However to encourage sales, track three is in fact by Youssou and the original super etoile. The super etoile 2 band was disbanded by youssou after just this one cassette, some say he was unhappy at how well the singer, young Manel Diop, was received by the senegalese fans.
