From Mali here’s Zani Diabate, our collegue at Worldservice
already gave us some older music of the group, on November 5.
This one is from 1988, on Mango, a division of Island Records.
I quote the backsleeve; “The Super Djata Band draw upon
traditional Malian culture for inspiration: Rhythms and dances
of Bambara hunters and Bozo fishermen, together with the melodies
of the Peul and Malinka, spiced with Zani’s almost
psychedelic guitar.”
tracks;
1 Super Djata
2 Bina
3 Djegnogo djougou
4 Bandjila
5 Tindoro
6 Noumousso
7 Facia
8 Farima
9 Fadingna kouma

Great stuff, very nice uptempo rhythms. Forget Tiesto, this is what I call trance!! Thanks Moos – cu in Utrecht next week – maybe I kiss your feet ;)
This was recorded in the Melkweg, Amsterdam, on March 21, 1987. It was originally released by Milady Music (10023), who also were responsible for the mixing.
Unfortunately the album doesn’t do justice to the concert.

You’ll have to be there on friday then, don’t kiss my feet, just meet ! We’re talking about Europe’s biggest recordfair in Utrecht, this coming weekend.
I am looking forward to it !

I can not tell if these tracks were recorded in the Amsterdam concert(I think not),really the album Zani Diabate (LIVE) Milady Music (10023) is a gem and more exciting than this one.
But for years I have this album on CD and the truth is that sound quality in vinyl is much more brightin ,the technique of Mango to extract digital sound should be very primitive in 1988.
Now I have a Moos rip copy with a brand new sound.
Thank you,again

On the backsleeve of this record, it says; “This record was first released in 1985 on the French Milady Music Label.” it also says;
“Recorded at: Studio du Manoir, Leon” so according to the LP, it wasn’t in the Melkweg in 1987.
I assume they wouldn’t lie here.
eitherway, thanks guys..

Ngoni/Moos: you are right, I was confusing this one with the live album. I only have the Milady versions with different sleeves & keep confusing the live with the studio album in this re-release.
The live one was recorded on the date I mentioned (I was there), and I repeat that the concert was much better than that (other) lp/cd.
