Hello our global visitors, I woke up this morning with
an urge to listen to some merengue. It’s been a while
since we had the real Dominican sound. One of my all
time favourites in the field is absolutely the great
Joseito Mateo. Every album with Joseito is a treat, on
this one he is accompnied by Ramon Garcia y su
Conjunto Cibao. Twelve songs that will
make you move across the room ..
P.S.
I received message saying my Mp3’s are false and no 320 kbps.
Winamp (which I use) is supposed to be lying about the bitrate.
Can anyone confirm this ? .. Or maybe deny it .. ?
How do you think about Foobar 2000 ?

Ik kreeg bericht dat mijn Mp3’s vals zijn en geen 320 kbps.
Wimamp (wat ik al jaren gebruik) zou liegen over de bitrate.
Kan iemand dit bevestigen ? .. of misschien ontkennen ?

Foobar is very good, but I’m not very familiar with the ins and outs of bitrates so can’t comment.

Happy to report that your mp3s are definitely 320k. The only way they could be improved would be to encode with full stereo, not use joint stereo.

Moos, hello. Thanks for the music again. They look like 320K to me. I use Winamp for my default player if I want to play a random track but use Foobar for playing ‘albums’. I use Foobar for ripping CDs because I can use freedb & MusicBrainz to get CD tracklists. I have used Cdex in the past for CD ripping but use it for converting files across different formats now. I use Mp3tag for adding tags. I also use ClickRepair for removing pops/clicks from wav vinyl rips. Too much info, eh? John
VLC, which I trust to be technically accurate, shows a recent track as variable bitrate (goes up and down a little over each track) averaging 320kbps. It could be the variable part which means it reports as lower in some people’s software?
I use foobar2000 as it is quite flexible to how you store and tag your files. It is also quite good for tagging. Though installing all the plugins you need to make it usable is a bit of a steep curve at the start and you basically get into to scripting for bits and pieces. I’d recommend finding someone else’s setup with instructions as a starting point.
I consistently see your files as 319 and they definitely sound good to me.

Hi Moos, your files have a CBR of 319 kbps, which stands out between other files that have a CBR usually of 320. To determine the real bitrate of an mp3 file one should use “FakinTheFunk” software, which is downloadable from the net but it has to be paid for apart from a free trial period of I thought two weeks, to try it. Other programs like Spek and Foobar 2000 do show the bitrate of the encoding, but that encoding might have been falsified. Then one can see in the frequencies diagram that although bitrate determination says for instance 320, this is false because the high frequencies are missing.

Whoever wants lossless should buy the LPs, or buy flac files on Qobuz, or 7Digital if available (like some of us do). People are getting rare music for free and still aren’t satisfied. Please don’t do anything else, this is probably a ploy to get you to provide lossless files to the ungrateful.

Thanks Alexsam, I must say the quality of my rips is good
enough for me either. No plans to change. However, Winamp
is causing me some problems, the library doesn’t load anymore
and makes it crash. I’m afraid I’ll have to arrange other
software at a certain point. Research was necessary on that
issue. No reason to go to lossless .. ;-)
