Ever since the Global Groove is active, from 2008, I’ve been
crate digging on fairs and in stores. Every time coming home
with piles of records, sometimes too much to listen. After a
period on the floor, the records found their place on the shelf.
Now I can search in my own collection and find things I forgot
I had them.

Today we find this 50 year old album with Rey Davila.
On ORC, Otoao Record Company from New York. If I’m not mistaking
Rey Davila was Colombian born, grew up in New York from his 8th
and worked with loads of Latin artists. This record contains
a few renditions of famous songs like ‘Louie Louie’ and ‘Fly Me
To The Moon’. I always fear the worst when reading such titles,
but Rey Davila made them ‘his own’. Check this elpee.

Sinds ik in 2008 met de Global Groove aan de slag ging heb ik heel
wat beurzen en platenzaken afgestruind. Soms kwam ik met dozen
vol elpees thuis, soms teveel om the luisteren. Na een tijdje op de
vloer te hebben gestaan verdwenen ze dan netjes op genre en alfabet
in de kast. Nu kan ik uren zoeken in m’n eigen platenkast en vind ik
dingen waarvan ik vergeten was dat ik ze had.

Vandaag vinden we dit 50 jaar oude album met Rey Davila.
Op ORC, Otoao Record Company uit New York. Als ik het goed heb is
Rey Davila Colombiaan van geboorte en groeide hij van zijn 8ste op
in New York. Hij werkte daar met veel Latin artiesten.
Deze plaat bevat uitvoeringen van bekende nummers zoals ‘Louie
Louie’ en ‘Fly Me To The Moon’. Altijd als ik zulk soort titels lees
houd ik m’n hart vast, maar Rey Davila geeft er z’n eigen draai aan
en maakt de songs ook echt eigen.
