Alex Kwabena Konadu was born in 1950 at Adwumakase
Kese in the Kwabere no.3 district in Ashanti. He developed
a keen interest in music in his infant days when at school.
But as he could not join any band at that tender age, he
learnt to manipulate some of the musical instruments and
never missed watching the concert parties and dance bands
which visited his town to perform at the time. He completed
his elementary education in 1967. He did not persuit further,
but instead took to music as his profession. The first band
which he joined was the Akwaboah’s Band. He remained
with it for three years and then left to join the Happy Brothers
Band as the lead vocalist. While with this group he felt the
desire to be on his own and therefore left after two years stay.
Kwabena went ‘solo’ for sometime, composing and practising.
One day he invited Mr. A.K. Brobbey, a very popular records
dealer and an active producer to listen to his rehearsals.
Having listened to him, Mr. A.K. Brobbey a philantropist and
one of the producers who has the ability to spot talents and
to polish them up, saw that Konadu has the qualities to be
with the best when given the right directions. He therefore,
helped him to organise his present band and signed him on.
With this set of first class instruments and new group, Konadu
has this to say, “Many thanks to my manager and producer
A.K. Brobbey, we shall work hard to be with the first always.”Unfortunately some idiot has been practising his autograph
all over the sleeve of this lp. Luckily he didn’t start on the
vinyl. The record plays quite well and the music sounds
absolutely great. One small issue though, Label and sleeve
do not agree about tracks 7 and 8. They switched them
around so I stuck with the label, which is also more
complete. If wrong let me know, thanks folks..tracks;

quite reasonable so here it is for everybody to grab. It isn’t
in mint condition but plays fair and sounds fine. With Kofi

Today groovers, we’ve got us another record by Master Bob Akwaboa.
We had a few already, four to be exact. You can find them by using
our search-bar. This one sounds very warm and was recorded in Ghana
but mastered in Cotonou, Benin. On this album he is accompanied by
the great trumpeteer E.T. Mensah, we do not hear him that much though.
As usual they did not give a year of release but somehow it seems to be
the youngest of the five. If you can lighten up this matter, please do.
Meanwhile just get it, listen to it and pass on copies to your friends.
oh eh, on side b the middle hole is off-centered so towards the
end of the album it gets a tiny bit false I’m afraid.tracks;
01 – Hwemibi nako
02 – Nsamanfoo
03 – Kwabena amoa
04 – Anoma a oreko
05 – Na mennim
06 – Owuo amma manka
– Medo wobiPosted by Moosat 11:02 AM - Tuesday February 17, 2015
What did I hear you say a while back, your favourite band
would be with Collins Marfo, Maringe, Konadu’s band, yes
I remember very well Kwabena. This album must please
you then. No Sammy Cropper but the others participate
on ‘Dua Ayi Me’. It has some minor disturbance, not too
much though, mainly on a-side, b-side plays better.
To my new Ghanaian visitors that entered through
my shop in hometown H’sum, I say welcome
and enjoy exploring the Global Groove..btw, titles on label and sleeve do not agree,
I missed one title on the b-side as well,
just took another title from the back
if anybody knows, please tell ustracks;
01 – Anka wobefe mano
02 – Ohohoo
03 – Wawie me ye
04 – Amane a mahu
05 – Owuo yi afu memu
06 – EboroPosted by Moosat 12:54 AM - Sunday February 8, 2015
Goodmorning groovers, thanks for your comments and for
appreciating the few poor words. Today I was in the mood
to record us a couple of singles from Ghana. It is the second
volume of highlife singles at the GG, I picked seven 45’s we
did not hear yet. Some of them are a little scratchy and
some not, I’ve put the best ones upfront and the worst
in last position. Labels are, in chronological order,
Ambassador, Executive, Decca, Aduna, Essiebons,
Ambassador and Rainbow. Hope you like’m..tracks;

Today’s lp by the African Brothers is a quite rare one. It is
ungooglable so to speak, zero results, only on ‘Popsike’
where you only find the most obscure albums. Great find
by our buddy Kali from Belgium when he was in Ghana
last year. African Brothers’ albums keep coming up
once in a while, they made so many. Enjoy this
one and share it if you can.tracks;
01 – Prodigal love
02 – Efiri fie
03 – Mepe no bi
04 – Anafranaku

Okay Kwabena, let’s do one with the funky highlife field
marshall, Tony Sarfo composed and arranged all songs
on this album. He is backed by the Afrosibi gang in which
also Sammy Cropper plays his part. This time he does the
Bass guitar. Voice over by Tony Mensah of Kumasi and
Tony Sarfo. Track #1, little angel, was his biggest hit in
1983, but too sweet for me. Today’s album contains a
song called ‘Mensu’ just like yesterday’s record by Vis
a Vis. Same song, different version? I wonder
was it written by Tony Sarfo?
tracks;1 Little angel
2 Momma yendo yenho
3 Obi de ba anopa
4 MensuPosted by Moosat 10:24 PMCategories

“Tops
It’s Vis a Vis again in a different mood altogether.
This album of the group will ensure fans that they
were truely the creaters ‘Kyenkyen Bi Adi Mawu’.
Now, all the songs on this album were written,
arranged and directed by Sammy Cropper, the
lead guitarist and assistant leader of the group.
And to know the hands on this album, let’s start
from the leader who is the person of superstar.”
( backsleeve notes )This lp is from 1979 on Brobisco, it has been played
a lot and sounds a little dusty. The backsleeve speaks
of only two tracks but the lp’s label gives us one title
on the a-side and three on the b-side. Love the rhythms
on track #4 myself, give it a spin and
see what you think..tracks;
1 Kalabule
2 Mensu
3 Enkobesie
4 Mankra yiePosted by Moosat 9:32 AM - Monday January 12, 2015
Hello groovers, yesterday I made a little trip to Belgium.
I visited my friend Kali, he is a collector too and uses to
travell to Africa to find lp’s. We had a nice afternoon
listening to, and talking about music. I came home with
some fresh posting material amongst which this here lp
by a very popular musician. Ebo Taylor is here first time
with ‘Twer Nyame’. The albums a-side is from 1978 and
b-side from 1977. A very nice piece of highlife, give
it a spin and agree, wonderful stuff,
get it & spread it..Let me show you Afri Kali on Youtube, we see him
searching through dusty and dirty lp’s in Ghana,
take a look and subscribe to his YT channel..
..scratchy but cool..tracks;
1 Twer nyame
2 Peace on earth
