- Sunday June 14, 20094 comments on Chief Stephen Osita Osadebe & his Nigeria Sound Makers International – Makojo, Polygram 1985
Chief Stephen Osita Osadebe is back at the GG with a sweet
album. His music gets you hypnotized and in cool trance.
Better don’t listen to me, listen to Stephen Osita Osadebe!tracks;
1 Makojo
– Egwu ogolo
2 Abube 85 oghiagha
– Okugbalu afia onitshaPosted by Moosat 8:11 PMCategories

On one of my last recordhunts I found this LP by T.P. Orchestre Poly
Rythmo of the Peoples Republic of Benin. African groups love long names.
And we love their music, they truly honour their name by delivering
this super rhythmic highlife. The second side starts kinda abrupt,
sorry but it has little damage. Fantastic dancing material.tracks;
1 Special Festac 77 in Nigeria A-side
2 Special Festac 77 in Nigeria B-sidePosted by Moosat 2:04 PMCategories

Always great covers on Oliver de Coque’s LP’s. Like this album
from 1982, it is a bit worn out but spins like it should.tracks;
1 Ekwueme youth club of Nigeria
– Ndi amama nenuwa
2 Onye aghana nwanne ya
– Onye nwelumadu nuwa kene chukwuPosted by Moosat 10:06 PMCategories

Good afternoon groovers, today I have another Nico Mbarga for you.
African music, and specially West African, is ruling at the GG, no
other part of the world attracts so many listeners. Prince Nico is
back and he’s kind of restless.tracks;
1 No die, no rest
2 Forgive me
3 Celibataire avec des enfants
4 H.N.B. ExplosionPosted by Moosat 10:06 AMCategories

On the Nigerian RAS label I recently found this LP.
Smahila’s work was unknown to me untill this album.
It contains a couple of great songs among which, ‘All Stars’,
an ode to Roger’s All Stars, and they deserve it, very nice.
Unfortunately the soundquality is not so good, but still..tracks;
1 Love
2 Help
3 Ils n’est jamais trop tard
4 All StarsPosted by Moosat 8:55 PM - Monday June 1, 2009
With the Nigerian civil war, late sixties, Highlife practically
came to an end in Nigeria’s western region. Tribal discrimination
forced all Igbo musicians to move from Lagos as guitarband highlife
was more and more identified with the east as Igbo-Highlife.
One of the diehards, keeping guitar highlife alive, was Stephen Osita
osadebe who recorded more than 30 albums. Here’s one of them.
( Info from the Rough Guide on Worldmusic )
By the way, this dish starts a little crispy
but mellows out along the way.tracks;
1 People’s club special A
2 People’s club special BPosted by Moosat 1:29 PMCategories

Goodafternoon, summer is really breaking through in the Netherlands.
Temperatures rise to far in the twenty’s ( Celsius ), weather for
a little Nigerian Highlife I’d say. Check this.
I found this LP on a recordfair not so long ago, an item that does
not give us the information we’d like to find. Backsleeve just tells
us titles, a year and nothing else. Nevertheless, the music is
worth a spin, or two.tracks;
1 Izu kamma na nneji
2 Chukwu kere mmadu
3 Chineke wetuo ekwensu
4 Mangala special
5 Ichere chi amaghi onye iwu
6 Ajam ashi-miPosted by Moosat 11:50 AMCategories

Look who’s back. Prince Nico Mbarga scored a huge hit in 1976
with Sweet Mother and eversince he sings about social and
family related matters. On this here album we hear about his
view on polygamy. Worn out cover but the LP itself
is still in quite good condition. Enjoy Nico Mbarga.tracks;
1 Polygamy
2 Njikoka
3 Experience 001
4 Simple truthPosted by Moosat 6:34 PMCategories

Ghana highlife at it’s best, Kyeremateng Atwede is here with
his Stars. The cover unfortunately has some dammage, the music
however sounds just fine. Give it a go.tracks;
1 Su su ka
2 Omama ho ye ahi
3 I go die for you
4 Never follow womanPosted by Moosat 4:00 PMCategories

When I find another Oliver de Coque I always get exited, if
it’s his exentric way of dressing, the covers are always great.
Or the uncomplicated highlife, interlarded with Congolese style
guitars, it thrills me playing this stuff time after time.
Listen to this gentleman, listen to Oliver de Coque !tracks;
1 Anyi cholu uwa silili welele
– Ozo emezinam
2 Egwu bu ife chi nyelanyi
– Ngozi si naka ndi okenye abiaPosted by Moosat 8:56 PMCategories
