    King Tubby's, front

    Tad's label

..wanna get some harddubbing roots..? smokin’ pumpin’
rubbadub by the hardest of dem all ? King Tubby’s
went to England and made his islandsound in the
cold for a change, obscure record with blanco
backsleeve, on Tad’s records, if you know
a year of release, can ya tell us too ?
..gimme some feedback if it hits ya..

    p.s.
about the tracklist, label claims 5 numbers on
each side but b-side only has three. I am only guessing
that the longer track #8 is in fact numbers 8,9 and 10.

    tracks;

    1 King tubby’s special
    2 Tad’s special
    3 Winter dub
    4 Raving dub
    5 Dread dub
    6 Eastwood dub
    7 General saint dub
    8 Ranimo dub
    – Dub up dub
    – Nkrumah dub

    Barrington Levy, front

    Power House label

Recently I found this missing piece in my Barrington Levy
collection. I have been waiting for years to encounter this
lp. It is an obscurity, very funny thing is they wrote his
name without the letter “G”. I always wondered how it is
possible to release an album and write your own name wrong.
Or do you think it’s done on purpose? Somehow I missed this
lp in 1984 when it came out. It is recorded with Scully on
percussion, Willie Lindo – lead rhythm, Robbie Shakespear
and Lloyd Parks on bass, Piano by Robbie Lyn and Bubbler
and Drums by Sly Dunbar. Get it & Spread it !

    tracks;

    1 Money move
    2 Jah save my life
    3 True love
    4 Misunderstanding
    5 I feel free
    6 Hard to believe
    7 Come in a dance

    Lord Flea, front

This is the band of Norman Thomas, better known as Lord Flea.
They were very popular playing in Jamaican nightclubs during
the fifties and moved to the United States of America. While
Trinidadian calypso was upcoming Lord Flea was Capitol’s
trump card, he appeared in tv shows and in films. This
lp was made in 1957, only two years later he was victim
of Hodgkin’s disease and died just 25 years old.
I think this is one of the best mento
    albums I ever heard, enjoy..

    2 Shi-du-bi-du-bab
    3 Bachelor’s wife

    Lacksley Castell, front

    Lacksley Castell

    Morning Glory, A-side label

Back in 1982 I bought this album for fl.21,95, which was
still in the time we had our old Dutch currency, the guilder.
I found out yesterday that prices for this lp go up as far as
€ 150,-. It seems to be quite rare so I thought I’d post it
for you to listen to without charge. Our guilder was worth
less than half of the euro so it’s worth has increased
substantially. Lacksley Castell died very young at the
age of 24 years. He worked with Hugh Mundell
who helped him and his buddy Junior Reid to
start in the music business. He was a very
    talented singer and songwriter,

Hear this ! In a much earlier stage, still in the beginning of the
old page back in 2008, I was asked to remove these here albums.
Greensleeves was re-releasing some of them and didn’t like me
to give them away. Now my buddy who owns a recordstore in
my hometown told me most of them are out of print at the time
being so I thought, “Good, let’s post them all again and see what
happens.” If you have a problem with either one, the way to protest
    is using this disclaimer.
So happy reggae listeners, don’t miss out on these classic lp’s.
I love them piece by piece and want to share them with you all.

    Duke Reid, front

…Duke Reid then became the new champion of Beat Street:
He was crowned ‘King of Sound and Blues’ for the years 1956-58
at the Succes Club in Kingston’s Wildman Street. Born in 1915,
the colourful Reid had served in the police force, where he had
been a champion marksman. After leaving the police he kept up
his connections, ran a thriving liquor business with his wife, and
continued to rear his guns at all times – pianist Theophilius Beck-
ford remembers Duke with a .45 and a .22 tucked into his waitband
and a rifle at his side, and Cocksone joked that he even kept them
on in the bath. The armaments created a forceful impression that
couls often be intimidating, as singer Derrick Morgan cecalled,
talking about his 1959 audition: “I go down by Duke Reid, an’ when
I go down there I see this man in a him liquor store. I say: good
mornin’ mista Duke. Im say: What can I do for you now? I think
he ‘ave two two gun a him side, an’ him finger full a ring. I say:
I hear that you havin’ audition suh, an’ I come fe sing too. Im say:
You can sing? I say: yes, so ‘im say: sing – in front of all who
    buying’…”
The combination of powerful sound system and Duke’s aggressive
bearing also attrackted the so-called ‘bad men’ of the day – man
like Dapper Dan, Buggy an’ Horse, Sam Jeggy and Gearge Moore.
They acted as ‘enforcers’ around the dance, and they or their friends
would also sabotage dances held by other sounds, usually by lobbing
stones over the fence or by starting fights…
( the Rough Guide to Reggae )

    tracks;

    1 You don’t care
    2 Here I stand
    3 Rock steady
    4 You don’t need me
    5 Do it right
    6 Only a smile
    7 Baba boom
    8 Persian cat & once a man

    Gregory Isaacs, front

About time I hear you think. I have always loved reggae music
and speaking of reggae and love, Gregory Isaacs with his sweet
voice was famous for his lovers-rock. This here album is not one
of his best known ones but may be all the more welcome for that
same reason. On Trojan records we have this lp from 1976,
“All I have is love”. Now I’m quite sure this one
is not going to stay up for long, so
get it, spread it and do it fast..
    Enjoy..

    tracks;

    1 Give hand
    2 Since the other day
3 All I have is love
    4 Sinner man
    5 Help us get over
    6 Hold me tight

    8 Way of life

    Don Carlos vs Gladiators, front

A treat from Empire Records in 1984 was this here record.
Some of the tracks had already been released as singles.
5 tracks by Don Carlos & Gold and 5 by the Gladiators
and we’ve got us this delightful slice of vinyl. I love the way they
had the a-side mixed by ‘Chemist’ and the b-side by ‘Scientist’,
    two great dub-masters. Listen …

    tracks;

    Side-a, Don Carlos & Gold,
1   Black out in the ghetto
    2   Fight fight
    3   Roots rock party
    4   Travelling so long
    5   Not giving up

    Side-b, The Gladiators,
    6   A nuh everything
    7   That nuh right
    8   Can’t stop righteousness

    Flabba, front

Yesterday evening I went to a concert of Israel Vibration in the
Amsterdam ‘Melkweg’. They appeared with the Roots Radics
and pulled of a wonderful show. Ever since the departure of
Apple, I guess in 1997, the once so famous trio turned to
continue as a duo. I must say Skelly and Wiss made a
huge entree and had the Melkweg at their feet. Remarkable
was the fact they had three microphones while singing with
two. As if they meant to say; ” Whenever you feel like it,
Apple, you’re welcome to join us again..”  Absolutely
marvelous to find Errol ‘Flabba’ Holt and Dwight Pickney
( I thought it was Bingy Bunny ) still performing in the band
they founded in the seventies. After the show I had the
pleasure of meeting with Errol ‘Flabba’ Holt and be able to
tell him what a star and heroe he is.
An evening to remember, listen to an oldie,
    Flabba in dub,…yes I…. seen.. ?

    tracks;

    1   Flabba dub
    2   Screw face dub
    3   Bronx bommers
    4   Macka dub
    5   Ark special
    6   Satta dub
    7   Criple man scank
    8   Rub a dub style
    9   Murder dub
    10  Super special dub
