- Saturday September 15, 201215 comments on Joe Higgs – “Unity is Power”,Elevation 1978
This is the guy that taught Bob Marley and the Wailers to sing
properly. “The Wailers weren’t singers untill I taught them. It took
me years to teach Bob Marley what sound consciousness was
about, it took me years to teach the Wailers. For example, they
will be going to make a record and I would go with them, and
there is somebody making constant mistakes. I would just have
to take this part in order to get the record finished in time.”
Bob Marley began singing in informal sessions at Joe Higgs’
yard on Trench Town’s Third Street in 1960. The Wailers first
got together there in 1961, initially calling themselves ‘The
Teenagers’. After quitting the Wailers at the end of spring 1973,
Bunny Livingstone Wailer became unwilling to leave Jamaica.
Joe Higgs, the goup’s original Trench Town mentor, took his
place for the illfated tour with Sly & the Family Stone.

Yesterday afternoon, my son and I were listening to some reggae
from the old days. I am so happy he has the same hobby his dad
does. He told me he’s going to Germany, to Europe’s biggest reggae
festival, Summerjam. We checked the festivals line-up and found that
among a lot of newer acts, Burning Spear and U-Roy are a few of the
older ones. My son didn’t know the music yet so we sat and listened
to some. Now here’s a U-Roy album for y’all from 1976. Take this and
be sure not to miss Dread in a Babylon as well.

Strictly looking at numbers of comments I can say
African music-genres are doing best at the GG. Do
you like a little reggae as well sometimes, then y’re
lucky today. For those who think; “nèè, not for me,..”,
I wanna say, “give this lp a try, nothing to loose but half
an hour of your time..and this is one of my absolute
heroes, with Sly, Robbie, Sky, Skully,
Ossie ans Winston.

This band delivered a steady reggae sound from the mid seventies
throughout the eighties. Joseph Hill was the group’s leader and songwriter,
he died in the saddle, being on a European tour. He got ill very suddenly
and died the next morning on august 19, 2006, only 57 years old.
This is an album from 1981 on ‘virgin’ records, I am posting this one
especially for the people who were in the park with me last saturday.
We had us a sunny afternoon with irie rub-a-dub, rocksteady reggae
and other global grooves. Behold poor Jah people, stop the fussing and
fighting, work on natty and never get weary,
smoke up the international herb.tracks;

At first I was a bit puzzled cuz the LP and label give
only 5 tracks per side while in fact there are 6. Good
thing we have the world wide web. I found the mystery

12 Dub A Natty DreadPosted by Moosat 8:08 AM - Wednesday April 27, 2011
Early sounds of a singer I digged from the first tones I
heard him. Sugar Minott’s sweet voice with, in this case,
backing by Earl Walker, Leroy ‘Horsemouth’ Wallace,
Jackie Mittoo, Pablove Black and Noel Bailey. Then
the magic of Clement Coxsone Dodd to top it off and
the groove is complete. On Studio One from 1977.
The dub-parts at the end of the songs are connected
quite poorly but after playing it so many times as I did
you get used to it or even start to like it, I must be mad.tracks;
1 Vanity
2 Roof over my head
3 Guidance
4 Jah Jah children
5 Try love
6 Oh Mr. D.C.Posted by Moosat 4:34 PM - Saturday March 5, 2011
If you’re into dub music, King Tubby’s name alone must
get you excited. He is one of the inventors of the style
and that shows. With artists like Robert Shakespear, Aston
Barret, Earl Smith, Carlton Barret, Augustus Pablo, Richard
( Dirty Harry ) Hall, Bobby Ellis and Vincent Gordon, this LP
contains some of the most historic dub recordings.tracks;
1 Keep on dubbing
2 Stop them jah

5 555 dub street
6 Braces tower dub
7 King Tubby meets rockers uptown
8 Corner crew dub
