  1. This is a real gem, Moos. Whenever Verckys played his sax, all Africa stopped to listen. I believe Verckys outshone Franco in the mid 1970s. Among the tracks you posted earlier, Orchestre Veve reached a peak with “Baluti”, “Bilobela”, “Nakoma Juste” and “Muana Mburu”, not to mention “Mikolo Mileki Mingi” which is some sort of Verckys signature tune. I don’t know if it can get better than this, but maybe you can unearth “Kalala”, “Yanini”, “Ndona”, “Mama Na Fuki”, “Lukani”, “Katenga” and “Toweli Nini”. If you can’t find the LPs, you might just come across 45s in mint condition.
It is virtually impossible to find music by Verckys and apparently the great Kiamanguana himself didn’t keep master copies of his recordings (sigh!). Cheers Moos! I’ll drink to this and to all the Verckys posts you’ve posted so far. I dare not hope for more but I know you can spring surprises!

    • Verckys did not keep master copies of his recordings? Why would someone as brilliant and business savvy as he was/is do something that business senseless? I hope that you are wrong because if you are right, then something was wrong.

  3. I must admit, I never heard anyone blow that sax the way he does, unique sound as if he speaks through it.., stay tuned Timothy, who knows..

  5. @Wuod K.

We keep meeting in all the major music blogs and I reckon we have very similar tastes. And I guess you have a really massive collection of Congolese music.
I’ve only just discovered Moos’ blog so you can imagine I’ve been very busy downloading rare gems.
If I’ve got your e-mail (yahoo?), you’ve also got mine (gmail), so talk to you soon .

    LOL
