Franco – Global Groove’s Selection 2011

Global Groove's Selection 2011, cd front

Africa’s greatest artist of all time is Franco Luambo Makiadi,
that is, if you ask me. He died on october 12, 1989,
exactly 22 years ago today. A fine opportunity to
launch a compilation with some of his work. It seemed
a good idea to use my collage as it’s cover. I hope
you like both and wish you happy listening,
after all these years, still the best,
let’s honour him once more !

tracks;

1 Kinzonzi kitata mbenda
2 Tolanda nzela moko
3 Cheri Lovy
4 Nayebaki likambo
5 Liberté
6 Boma ngai, ngai na boma yo
7 Course au pouvoir
8 Likambo ekoswa na motema
9 Kamikaze
10 Mutambula mpimpa
11 Likambo na moto te

    Fully agree!

    Sometimes I would like you to provide a better audio quality eg bitrate 192 instead of 128 for this kind of music : it deserves it.

    Anyway thank you very much for this exceptional collection.

    It seems you prefer his Kikongo songs …

    Prachtig!

    @Moos: Thanks a million, especially for including “Liberté” in this compilation.

    @Joji: Doesn’t Moos rip @320 kbs? (Well sometimes my player indicates 317 or 319!). Maybe one day Moos will switch to FLAC … but that takes up more disk space on the servers. :D

    Thank you so much Moos. Moos you are the best man to put great music of Africa and the world as well. I love you Moos. Every Franco selection you made there was a great song itself. Franco was Grand Maitre for a reason. He made songs that most can never be redone. I wish more people can comment here Moos. Moos, you need more comments here because we are having a legend here. Franco is the greatest Congolese Musician.

    Fantastic compilation! Moos – did you edit the text notes? Yesterday, there was something about your other hobby (like about creating collages with bits of paper), I was very tired and wanted to read it today but that text is gone – can you add those details once again? But then like I said, I was very tired and could have made an error.

    @Timothy:
    mplayer shows the right bitrate but the wrong duration. eg “Liberté”
    1441.0 (24:01.0) instead of 576.9 (09:36.8)

    “one day Moos will switch to FLAC” : a dream! Agree bandwidth is a problem especially for Africa.

    Groet – Regards.

    @DR LAWI:
    Melesi mingi Dokotolo. Oyo olobaki ezali ya solo. Nakutaki yo epayi na “Ntwiga” elongo na Molakisi Joji mpe na Wuod K.

    Translation for the rest:
    (Thanks DR LAWI. What you’ve said is true.I’ve met you at Ntwiga’s – together with Prof. Joji and Wuod K)

    @Moos: While trying to rename Track 11, I dragged and dropped the file onto Audacity sound editor and Lo and Behold, it is a Mono! (Magnificent Mono as Radio Nederlands used to put it in the 1980S).

    Have been a fan of franco since 1982 in London, even though could not understand lyrics. Lucky enough to have seen the Grand Maitre on form in London with his full vocal crew Madliu etc at Hammersmith Palais. Forget the year now. Thought another compilation would not surprise me, but yours is excellent. Stuff I had never heard plus good choices of the more familiar. A connoisseurs compilation!
