Bibi Den’s Tshibayi – The Best AmbianceEarthworks / Roughtrade & The Cartel 198312″ Single on 45

Bibi Den, front

When my friends and I started to listen to African music early
eighties, this 12″single made an enormous impression on us.
And after 26 years I still like it. If we had a party, it was always
played and we danced like crazy. Earthworks/Roughtrade co-productions
released a bunch of African dance hits on these 12″ singles, look out
for them if you are recordhunting, they all have this nice cover.

tracks;

1 The best ambiance
2 Elisa Kouadio

    This was really a big one in the early 80’s. I played it a lot in my hometown-disco, as many other African dancehits (Pablo’s ‘Madeleina’ en music of King Sunny Adé). Terrific site!

    Can’t believe it man, haven’t heard this in years! We must have started listening at exactly the same time and bought all the same releases. You don’t happen to have “Mother and Child” 12″ by Sonny Okusuns, do you?

    Thanks, as ever. Dank je wel.

    Very interesting, Moos. I note (from Frank Bessem) that in later years he had some notable musicians working with him such as Lokassa and Tchakou. Anybody have an idea who plays on these tracks?

    You have one of the GREATEST music blogs in the UNIVERSE!!! Thank you for your hard work!!

    Eamonn mentioned Sonny Okosun. If you have the “Ozidizm” LP I recommend you lay it on the people here, because that is ONE hard album to find, and it’s in my meagre opinion his best overall.

    Thank you so much for posting this! The Best Ambiance album was one of my favorites. Still looking for the other other 2 tracks….
    Also… a longshot, I know but if anyone knows where I can get “Weekend” by Rigo Star circa 1986, please let me know. Thanks again
