Le Seigneur Rochereau & l’Orchestre
African Fiesta National – Dans la
Musique Congolaise de Variétés
african 1969, 1970

From 1969, 1970 is this album by le Seigneur Rochereau. Ndombe Pepe
wrote tracks 4 and 6, Rochereau the other 6 tracks. In fact, that’s
the only thing I know sure. I thought I knew Rochereau as a singer,
but is he performing in some kind of way on this LP ? It is an all
instrumental album. Does he play the guitar perhaps ? I hope one of
you African music friends can clear this up for us. Meanwhile, listen.

tracks;

1 Nanga ya maza
2 Zuwa ya bosenzi
3 Congo nouveau Afrique nouvelle
4 Libala ya maloba
5 Congo avenir
6 Hortense
7 Mokitani ya wendo
8 Mokolo makofuka

Whatever be Rochereau’s role in this album, the music is wonderful – the guitar work reminds me of Dr. Nico. Apurva from Pune, India.

This album just contains instrumental versions of some of the most popular songs Rochereau wrote or recorded with African Fiesta. I don’t think he’s playing any instrument on this album, but it’s wonderful, the music is so relaxing. There ‘s another LP with a blue cover with more instrumental versions. Both LPs were also reissued on one CD on the Ngoyarto label, unfortunately out of print today.

Thanks, Moos. I’ve been trying to think of any other purely instrumental album by a Congolese artist, but so far I’m drawing blanks. Any help from anyone?
