Tchoumbeun Alfred, “Papa Noël” – Tamba Zazou,la grande danse Africaine, Molo – Molo

Papa Noël, front, cd size

I made a mistake suggesting this is the Congolese Papa Noël.
It’s a clear thing by now that this is not the same one.
I must have been blind to suggest he was, nevertheless, eventhough
another papa, this is a very nice album, check yourself.

tracks;

1 Tamba Zazou
2 No sens
3 Ayi kpwen
4 Mariage échoué

    Well thanks a lot – I look forward to listening to this – looking at it I’m still not sure that that’s the great “Papa Noel” Nedule Montswet of Bantous/OK Jazz/Kekele fame – is everyone definite about that?

    Moos, are you or any of your visitors able to elucidate the names on this record? I thought Papa Noel’s name was Antoine Nedule (ref Stewart’s Rumba on the River) so what’s with Tchoumbeun Alfred I wonder? Presumably ‘Tamba Zazou’ is the title of the album (and first track) so again I’m wondering is Molo-Molo the name of the band? (nothing with this name in Stewart) Thanks for any clarification.

    I was also wondering about the names on the cover. Backsleeve speaks of a Molo – Molo Production so I assume Molo – Molo is the name of the record company. Looking at the two faces on the only two records I know, it is not getting much clearer.If any one could shine a light on the matter ?

    Of course I’m a certified know-nothing when it comes to African music, but I’d say that this Papa Noel does neither look nor sound much like the “official” Papa Noel – but a very sweet record nonetheless! Thanks for sharing it, Marc

    Alfred Tchoumbeun’s nickname just happens to be Papa Noel (Father Christmas). This is music from Cameroon, not Congo. Therefore, nothing to do with soukous or Congolese artist Nedule Montswet aka Papa Noel.

    It’s not the same Papa Noel. “Papa Noel” Nedule Montswet is one of the greatest rumba guitarist from RDC who has played with some of the greatest Congolese/Zairean bands since the late 50s (Rock-A-Mambo, African Jazz, Les Bantous,OK Jazz). He joined Kekele for some time and also did some collaborations with Cuban musicians recently.His latest release is an album he did with Ems Pecola in 2007 (“Porte à porte”).
    The guy , Tchoumbeun Alfred, is a rather obscure (I mean: not well known) artist from Cameroon.

    For those who understand French/pour ceux qui parlent le français, here’s Papa Noel’s (Antoine Nedule Monswet) biography by Clement Ossinonde:
