Maître Dizzy Mandjèkou – Saïla, Papa Disco

Dizzy Mandjèkou’s first solo project after being the lead guitarist
of les Grands Maquisards, Afrisa International of Tabu-Ley Rochereau
and the African All Stars. Dizzy dedicated it to his fans from those days.
I was not aware at the time but still feel adressed to, how about you ?

    Thanks a million for this posting. “Saila” brings back some fond memories. I’ve been trying to find a recording of the track but until now, all my efforts have been in vain, not least because I couldn’t remember the artist! This song was all the rage in East Africa in 1980/1981. I remember spinning the vinyl single on a Philips automatic turn-table with a group of friends in a mud shack. I’ll have an extended playing session of this song in memory of Paul, a cousin of mine who will likely be listening from the other side. :)

    Wow! Thanks so much for this. Totally reminds me why I fell in love with African music 25 years ago. “Saïla” will be on every mix CD of African music I give to friends from now on.
