Robert Johnson – King of the Delta Blues Singers,Columbia
If you’re into blues, Robert Johnson can’t be absent in your
collection. Thousands of blues songs have been based on these
simple recordings. Back in 1936 they were made in a hotelroom,
used as a recordingstudio. Just Robert Johnson and his guitar, on
a wooden chair in an empty room. Just about 30 songs have
been saved. Johnson, who had womentrouble all the time was
poisoned by one of them, not even 25 years old. His music inspired
big singers like Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker.
Check the backsleeve notes for a longer and fascinating story.

Yes indeed – this is a killer recording – a true historical milestone. I’d love to give it a proper listen but the link doesn’t seem to take me to the download page. Could you check that Moos – many thanks as always Mambo Pete

Always a good thing to revisit some roots. Figured you’d fix the link.
Much thanks.Do you have Dub Syndicate “pounding System” or the Dr Pablo album? I would love a 320 kbs rip of that.
Maybe the Ramdog site would be the place to post that.
Cheers.

Moos – it’s widely agreed now that all of Johnson’s 78s were speeded up. If you’ve some means of slowing the LP down – like a direct drive turntable – you’ll suddenly find yourself listening to a sexy young black guy with a cool guitar sound – less of paranoid gabbler, more of a human being.

That is incredible Legrandmaitre,
I never knew. I am listening the way you say right now and it’seems true, somehow it sounds much more natural in a slower version. Can you tell us why they did speed it up ? If anyone is interested I could make a slower rip aswell..

Moos,
Please make a slower rip, I am not in the possession of such technology, so the slower rip will be much appreciated!

Audacity, which I believe is a free download, can slow things down either with or without altering the pitch. Probably nobody is going to read this, now that the new version has been posted. But maybe…
