Orchestre Les Mangelepa,Phonogram 1978

Orchestre Les Mangelepa, front

There was a shout out for more Orchestre Les Mangelepa.
We’re lucky, I recently found us this 1978 LP. Somewhere
in the past we had an other, check our search option for fast
finding. This Congolese group moved to East Africa and operated
from Kenya for some years. Meet ‘Walter’, I just did last week,
we are learning something all the time.

tracks;

1 Walter
2 Pambana-pambana
3 Halleluya
4 Maboko pamba

    Walter, I believe, was one of LM’s biggest fans, and this song was written in his honor. This LP contains a couple of my favorite LM tracks, especially “Halleluya”. Thanks, Moos.

    Hii moss you are the most beautiful thing that ever happenned to me. Mangelepa is and was my band to date.The band still exists though with only five original members i.e. Kabila Kabanze Evani, Lutulu kaniki (makki) Badibanga Wa shilumba (kaikai),Maindusa (Petit Moustang, and Kasongo Fundi.Others like Bwami wa Lumona got saved,tabu Ngongo went to japan, Mukala Coco remained in Malawi with another splinter group.Kindly give the mangelepa fans more of their chafua chafua supa sax.Ambundo

    Moos, now you’re spinning the music that got Kenyans grooving in the late 1970s. I was 15 when this came out and I can tell you that everyone in Kenya was singing along. Captain Bwamy and his boys (Kabila Kabanze, Bandi Banga Wa Tschiluba etc) were quite something then. For a number of years we switched off OK Jazz and got carried away by the Mangelepa magic. I move that we make you a Honorary Citizen of Kenya for posting this. Thanks very much!

    As Ambundo said the band still exists today. I saw them live last year in Nairobi, I’ve posted some pictures here:

    @Joji:

    Good to see you here after WorldService and elsewhere :).
    BTW I was wondering if you might be the “Georges” who wrote a Kiswahili-French dictionary (I have a copy on my shelf). But it could be just a coincidence that both of you have an outstanding command of Kiswahili.
