André Bimi Ombale Mwana Wabi, one of Zaïko Langa-Langa’s
main singers died last friday, april 29, in a hospital in Kinshasa.
Bimi arrived in Tout Choc Zaiko Langa Langa band to its creation
in the 70’s as a drummer, and with his inimitable voice, emerged as a
good songwriter beside Jossart Nyoka Longo, Evoloko Joker, Papa
Wemba, Mavuela Somo, Efonge Gina…. After the departure of Evoloko,
Papa Wemba, Mavuela Somo, Bozi Boziana for creating Isifi Lokole band,
Bimi Ombale remained as a headliner in Zaiko Langa Langa with Jossart
Nyoka Longo. He left Zaiko Langa Langa and created Zaiko Familia Dei
with Lengi Lenga, Ilo Pablo and others. Bimi finally created his own musical
group called Basilique Loningisa before becomming a Christian musician.
Bimi died, but he will remain present among fans of Congolese music
because he leaves a huge work of music with many titles like
“Joliba”, “Misolina”, “Ngongi”, “Banyango”, “Mopaya zoba”,
“Elima ngando”, “Sandra lina”, etc ( Allvoices News )

Thanks for yet another LP from ZLL. It’s a great contribution towards expanding my knowledge of Congolese music. ZLL are one band I never really got into, so I’m trying to learn as much about them as I can now.

I have a different, excellent Zaiko album with the same name. Who or what is Nkolo Mboka? This was a cassette I bought, prob on River Road in Nairobi in 1985, if not there probably in Adams-Morgan, DC in 1985-89. Track listing: Nalali-Mpongui; Paoki; C’Est Trop Tard Mimi; La Tout Niege; Nimerita; Christine. I could upload cover art if you want, but it’s a photo on white background.

Moos – following up on my ptrvious comment, I later learned that in July 2009 you posted the album I have on cassette and mentioned in my previous comment. And it looks like Z.L.L. Nkolo Mboka was one of the names of the spin-off bands from Z.L.L. So what is the title of the other album (I thought from covern Nkolo-Mboka was album name, not part of band name)? I guess “Le Fan Club Zaiko de Brazza Presente” works.
And how do you keep the morphing band names straight for the purpose of 21st century MP3 tags of music files, where the band name slightly changes? (Zaiko versions; Franco, OK Jazz, TPOK Jazz, Orch TPOK, etc.; Kamale, Orch Kamale, Les Kamale, Kamale Dynamique, with or without Nyboma listed, with 1 name only or last name too, various spellings) I generally pick one artist name for all variants and more or less ignore the variants.
