Discotheque 76 – Various Artists
Editions Syliphone Conakry 1976

Discotheque 76, front

Delightful 1976 compilation of Guinéan songs, only one by
Super lion and the other four by Bembeya Jazz National.
Crazy laughing ballad ‘Petit Sekou’ stole my heart straight
away. Don’t forget to share it with your friends, killer stuff.

01 – Super Lion – Kiti
02 – Bembeya Jazz – Telephone
03 – Bembeya Jazz – Petit sekou
04 – Bembeya Jazz – Ah kani
05 – Bembeya jazz – Kana sarakabö

A great series, that. Thanks for sharing the 1976 one. Petit sekou reminds me of the rock of my youth, though seldom played with this kind of discipline. Kana sarakabo really does it for me: poly-rhythms! And a great guitar weaving around the singers. Classic stuff, really.

Thanks for this Moos. I’ve only listened to a few in the series so far and i’m really diggin’ ’em. Do you happen to have ’74? I want to hear them all but I heard a song from that one that was especially great.
    Thanks again.
