Zaïre Volume 2 – Docteur Nico et l’Orchestre
African Fiesta & Bana Mambo
Makossa International 1982
Air Zaïre side two – African Fiesta Sukisa
Super International 1982

Zaïre vol. 2, voorkant

On Makossa International we find this slice of vinyl on which
two bands are presented. To begin with, with three songs we
find Docteur Nico et l’Orchestre African Fiesta and on the second
side we have Orchestre Bana Mambo with two songs. Delightful
early eighties sound. By Orchestre African Fiesta I also had waiting
some kind of bootleg or Air Zaïre release with six tracks. The first
three were already on ‘african 360.020’ and have some damage
too. As a bonus I now added the second side of this album,
three songs that were once released as singles. Enjoy..

Thank you very much! Docteur Nico, as good as expected, but Orchestre Bana Mambo was really a surprise!

Here’s some background information on Bana Mambo, from Gary Stewart’s indispensable Rumba on the River history, page 267. Beginning with Soki Vangu’s group Bella Mambo, which included Diblo Dibala and Kanda Bongo: “Kanda, Diblo, and some of the other musicians broke away from Soki to form Orchestre Bana Mambo (the children of Bella Mambo) at the end of 1976. With Kanda as its leader… Bana Mambo stayed together for two years.”

Thanks, brilliant. Unusual Dr. Nico , in tone and production. Figures late. Is it really Fiesta, can you hear Rochereau vocals? Any details, anyone? I really love it. I’m sure Dechaud is there.

Hi Moos. So many fantastic posts!
I didn’t think the last two bonus tracks were Dr Nico’s work. A quick search brought this up.

So it’s Conga Succes. Great stuff though.
By the way, do you have anything by Simba Wanyika? One of my all time favourite bands, strangely forgotten about and often confused with Les Wanyika – a very different band!
Many many thanks. Dank u vel.
