Semana Forrozeira, Forró Theme Week, day 7
Benedito Nunes – O Gozador
Musicolor 1973

tamelijk sympathiek. Deze laatste bijdrage aan een weekje forró
stamt uit 1973. Tegen de niet-liefhebbers zeg ik, “bedankt voor
het geduld”, tegen de liefhebber, “veel luisterplezier ..”

Visitors of the Global Groove do not all leave a message. From
download and visitor numbers however, I can always see what
people think of what I am posting. The forró theme week clearly
did not generate a whole lot of enthusiasm. Shame, but that
happens. Let’s say not everybody likes the same ..

I would not be myself however if I didn’t finish what I started.
Therefore today, day seven of our forró theme week. We saw
Benedito Nunes on one earlier occasion, he was not the most
famous singer, but I think his sound is quite sympathetic. This
final contribution to the forró theme week is from 1973. To all
none forró lovers I say, “thank you for your patience”, to
the lovers of the genre, “enjoy listening ..”

Hey Moos, thanks for these forró posts. I’m one of those who love this music so I appreciate the chance you give to hear artists I didn’t know about. The forro scene in Brazil is huge, it’s very social music. One guy I know who runs an accordion shop in the UK told me that in the last few years his sales in Europe have been falling while he actually can’t get hold of enough accordions to meet massive demand coming from Brazil for the classic instruments. Maybe people over in Europe think it sounds a bit dated and “oom-pah”. That’s a shame because it can be really gritty funky and danceable, especially if you like getting close when you dance. I think good live forro bands could conquer Europe. Thanks for sharing……mamboPete

      Hi MamboPete,
So glad to hear you are into forró,
means I’m not the only one to enjoy it.
I have been in Brazil quite some times,
used to have a Brazillian girlfriend.
Over there forró lives immensely as you
also say. It is such a nice thing when
you walk into a live gig, happens quite
a lot. Good to hear you, cheers ..

Thanks Moos for these week of Forro. I’m not a great fan of the genre, but I have pleasure to listen to people like Jackson do Pandeiro o the great album of Genival (what a name !) Lacerda. I like accordion too, so for me not very difficult to accept a whole week of Forro.
It’s always a good idea to discover the music of a period, an area or a subgenera like Etsakor (I’m a great fan of it) !
    Thanks again.

    Hi Moos
SPECIAL REQUEST TO 1 AND ALL (Where possible)
you are my last hope. I’m looking for a remix version of “ROSA” by Les Grands Maquisards. i have the one on the best of album. its not the sound that im seeking. however i wonder if you have a copy of the single “Mbanza Velela” on the b-side is a track “Rosa”. I’m hoping this must be what i seek. its really very nice indeed I’m sure other members might enjoy if you can share. regards

Many thanks for all the forro. In my home town of Melbourne Australia we have a number of cafes/bars that feature Forro music also there are dance studios that teach Forro dancing & ballet. So Forro is very much alive & well here in OZ
    Cheers

Well I think it a perfect way to close out the week or any week for that matter. Sorry to hear about Thione Seck by the way; what a voice. Thanks for all your dynamic posts. Take care all.
