Orchestre Lipua-Lipua
Les Derniers Succes de Lipua-Lipua vol. 2
Editions Vévé International 1983
Today, dear visitors, you may find a record with Orchestre Lipua-Lipua
that was sent to us by Peter, called Bavon Marie Marie by his friends.
We had volume 1 and now we also have volume 2. A very nice contribution
and a very welcome addition to the small amount of records with this
wonderful band. We thank Peter for his work and generosity.
Enjoy listening everybody ..
Beste bezoeker, vandaag vinden we een album met Orchestre Lipua-Lipua
welke ons werd toegestuurd door Peter, door z’n vrienden ook wel Bavon
Marie Marie genoemd wegens zijn grote liefde voor rumba. Wij hadden reeds
het eerste volume, dit is dus volume 2. Een zeer welkome toevoeging aan onze
kleine collectie platen met deze geweldige band. We danken Peter voor zijn
werk en vrijgevigheid. Luister weer met plezier ..

Thanks as always. Its always shame to not have more information on lineups for these bands. I think this is the era when the lead vocalist was Nzaya Nzayadio (great vocalist – though rarely a front-line name – later joined Choc Stars), rather than their early days when their lineup included Nyboma and Pepe Kalle. I hope someone more knowledgeable can enlighten us further on the personnel.
I second that emotion,
thanks Anon ..
Hi Moos,
I appreciate for the feedback given.
It is worth noting that this was the culmination of Lipua Lipua.
Sorry forgot to give the line-up which is as follows;
On Vocals; Nzaya Nzayadio, Toupie Toukala, Rex Lusukamu, Maluku & Menga
Solo Guitar; Lusuama Aspro
Mi-Solo Guitar: Sasa Lutayi
Rhythm Guitar: Mike Mike
Bass Guitar: Mbanza Velela Masikulu
Drums: Nono Nkuka Gaston
Congas: Samara Makaya
Brass: Mbuta Benazo & Tonele Pindu Mazisa
Hi Bavon,
I was wondering, do you have a picture
of the back sleeve of the record,
it would be nice to add it ..
Thanks very much for both the record and lineup
Hi Moos,
I don’t have the back-sleeve, but will try and look for it.
Thanks for Lipua Lipua. Great Music.
Thanks to you both for this missing piece. Satisfies the completist in me and no doubt many others. Happy Thanksgiving to all!
Luswama Aspro, the lead guitarist at the time Lipua Lipua disbanded was interviewed a few weeks ago on the Kenyan national radio station KBC and was asked how Lipua Lipua disbanded. He stated that tensions had started within the groups and there were rumours that Verckys, the impresario, would soon dismantle the band.
When they released this album, Verckys named it “Les Derniers Succes de Lipua Lipua”, it didn’t make sense to them. But it all added up when they went to rehearse the next time round and they found that Verckys had taken the instruments that they used and handed them over to Langa Langa stars.
Thanks for clarifying the context for this (and likely the first volume) of les dernier recordings. Whatever the reasons behind Verckys rather hastily pulling the plug on Lipua Lipua the sessions sound stellar. Like a good gateau a second slice is always welcome especially with the right ingredients; this one is very tasty!
