Orchestre Elf Music
Elf Music
Togo Saga 1983

Today we find a quite unknown album released by Elf Congo.
Elf was a French petrol company until it went on under Total in
2021. In 1983 they released this record with their own Orchestre
Elf Music. Members are shown below. Their names are all new to
me. Maybe not the best orchestre Congolais we heard, but still,
this is a quite entertaining album. Give it a chance and let us
know what you think about it ..

onderhoudende plaat. Luister en laat ons weten
wat jij ervan vindt ..

Thanks Moos. Very funny, I didn’t know that Elf (French petroleum company) had ever realized album from Congo ! Funny cause Elf was the French government non official master defense of France interests in Congo (in 60-70’s), Gabon and so on. We have a word in France to describe this relation between France and formers colonies in Africa : Françafrique (no traduction possible). If there is some African friends ont this blog they probably can explain what does Françafrique (or fric) means for them.
No poets in Elf but musicians ;-)))

    Charming (and it’s definitely not over-produced) :)

Companies in Africa, as well as wealthy individuals and corrupt politicians, certainly patronized musicians for publicity, I can’t think of another instance of a “house band” to promote the imperial power. IMHO it’s a fairly mundane recording that is but a shadow of the many brilliant Congolese recordings produced in that early 1980’s era.
