Kevin Coyne (27 January 1944 – 2 December 2004) was an English
musician, singer, composer, film-maker, and a writer of lyrics, stories
and poems. He was critically acclaimed for his unorthodox style of
blues-influenced guitar composition, the intense quality of his vocal
delivery, and his lyrics describing injustice to the mentally ill. Musicians
who have described themselves as Coyne fans include Sting and
John Lydon. In the mid-1970s, prior to the formation of the Police,
Coyne’s band included guitarist Andy Summers. BBC disc jockey
Andy Kershaw described Coyne as “a national treasure who keeps
getting better” and as one of the great British blues voices. read more ..

I received a special request for this record, Sanity Stomp.
As a collector and music lover about every Kevin Coyne album
ever made finds itself on the shelf in my recordroom. He has a
special place in my heart. so many wonderful songs, I wouldn’t
know where to start telling you about it. Just listen to ‘Saviour’
and ‘Marjory Razorblade’ and start from there. Funfact; Kevin
Coyne was asked to follow up Jim Morrison after his untimely
death, but was not interested to start wearing leather pants ..

Toen Mathijs van Nieuwkerk in DWDD eens opmerkte dat van
Kevin Coyne natuurlijk nog nooit iemand gehoord had moest ik
bijna spugen van ergernis. Hij en zijn vriend Leo Blokhuis weten
echt geen reet van muziek. Alle kennis komt van het web en gaat
bijna uitsluitend over Amerikaanse muziek. Van Engelse bands
hoor je nooit iets, zeer droevig. De echte liefhebber kent het
uitgebreide oeuvre van Kevin Coyne natuurlijk wèl ! Een leuke
wetenswaardigheid; Kevin werd gevraagd Jim Morrison op te
volgen als zanger van de Doors, maar had geen interesse
om in een leren broek te stappen ..
