It’s been a while since we had us some Nigerian highlife. It
has also been a while since we had us an album by the
excentric Oliver de Coque. He always looks quite special,
original, like no other. This 1981 LP sounds as good as it
was recorded yesterday, fresh rhythms and guitars and
of course Oliver de Coque’s special way of chanting. Oliver
Sunday Akanite is his real name but if you would call him; Oliver
de Coke, Oliver de Fanta, Messiah of Ogene, Oliver de Identity
or Oliver de Coque, he is all. Enjoy Udoka Social Club of Nigeria.tracks;

Speaking about digging up old stuff, this rare piece of
Ghana highlife was brought to me by a friend. He travels
the world to find these treasures. First record I heard by
King Onyina, born Kwabena Onyina. His father used to have
a guitar and when he died and left it to Kwabena at the age of 13,
young King Onyina decided to make a living out of the instrument.
I have read somewhere on the web King Onyina passed away some 5
months ago. Let’s pay him respect in playing his music, listen.

Nana Kwame Ampadu I was the leading man in this fine band. Composer,
arranger, singer, guitarist, he was it all. I am not sure from which year it is,
probably somewhere half way the 70’s. Another gap that’s being filled on
the world wide web, pick it up and play, you won’t regret. Sweet highlife and
‘Afrohili Soundz’. Every once in a while a new term is launched hoping to
become the new standard. In this case it remained as the title of a couple LP’s.More Info Always Welcome

You know, mostly when I tell you something about the LP that
I’m posting, I get the information from the internet. To be honest
I often don’t know sh*t about it. I am no specialist in any genre,
and just believe my own damn ears, that’s all. Let’s turn things
around for a while, I post the music and info from the album that I
just like and you provide us with decent background information.
How’s that for a change ? For instance, I only suggest that the
words written under the titles ( backsleeve, in capital ) are titles too.
They might aswell not be. Can you clear up this matter for starters ?tracks;

In 1963, Paa Steel Kwame Ampadu started the eight piece African
Brothers Band. After scoring a huge hit with ‘Agyanka daberemu’
in 1966, they went professional in 1967. This is the group’s second
LP and must be from about 1973 when they counted 16 members.
Fantastic Ghana highlife from one of it’s main performers. The LP
also contains Pachanga, Cha cha cha and such, check it out.tracks;

Classic Nigerian Highlife album by one of the leading bands.
Brothers F.Dansatch, G.Kabaka and Worrior Opara made loads of LP’s
and I never heard a bad one. Sleeve of the album states it’s from
1977 and label says 1976, either way, don’t miss it.By the way, I re-upped the Sound of the Gypsies,
use the Search option to get there fast.tracks;

Only eight country’s left to win the world cup, and who would have
thought only one African country made it to the quarter finals. Ghana
is that country and let’s hope they’ll beat Uruguay tomorrow. I am not against
Uruguay but there are 4 South American country’s left so to restore the balance
it would be a good thing. To help them a bit here’s some Ghanaian highlife for you
to play before the match, If everybody does, it might help the winning spirits to
choose Ghana’s side. You can do the same for our orange team the afternoon.
We’ll have to beat Brazil to stay in the tournament, not an easy job.
About the music; We had a couple of their albums before and untill now I
haven’t heard one bad track. Sweets for Ghana highlife lovers.

Kofi Sammy, who left the K. Gyasi’s Band and Water Proof, who
left E.K.’s no.1 Band, then formed the Okukuseku’s No.2 Guitar
Band in 1969. After recording some 60 plates on 45 rpm, this is
their second LP. It’s quality is not perfect and makes a little
jump in track 2, but still… We congratulate Ghana with reaching
the last 16 country’s to appear at the world’s biggest football stage.

Today I saw Mexico play France, wow, quite a match. I also saw
Nigeria play Greece. I am trying to see as many matches as possible,
great tournament. Mexico, Nigeria, today’s post also makes a connection.
The Oriental Brothers International Band, led by F. Dansatch Opara, one of
Nigeria’s absolute greatest highlife bands, are here to add a bit more flavour to
that already boiling vuvuzela atmosphere. Check this 1980 album and play ball.tracks;
