From 1979 we have this nice LP by the great Nigerian highlife
master Chief Stephen Osita Osadebe who composed and arranged all
songs. Let the music speak for it’s self.tracks;

From 1968 we have this classic recording of Ghanaian highlife. Led by saxophonist
Jerry Hansen this is the Ramblers Dance Band. The 15 piece band plays a very
percussive warm African evening sound. A collection of 13 short but catchy songs
with vocal harmony over guitars and sharp percussion, just the way we like it.tracks;
1 Ekombi

It’s been a while since we had us some Nigerian highlife. Together
with Nico Mbarga, Ikenga Super Stars, Oriental Brothers and African
System Orchestra, to call a few, these guys belong to the cream of
the crop of the highlife scene. Everything about this album is right, good
cover, great sound quality, perfect material for a hot summer dance.tracks;

On Ambassador Records MFG. Co. Ghana Ltd., ‘The Big Recording
Company In Ghana’, they called themselves, this rare LP. Bob Akwaboah
and his Supreme Internationals were unknown to me untill this album
and it is still the only work I ever heard by them. Not a lot of information
here. Tomorrow, the Netherlands play a friendly match of soccer against
Ghana to get warm for the big tournament. I’m looking forward to this match.
African football is always a joy to look at and if we’re lucky, our guys will
play an attractive game too. I throw in this piece of highlife to create
the proper atmosphere. We are slowly getting there, 11 days to go.
Meanwhile enjoy bassplayer Bob Akwaboah and his superb highlife.tracks;

One of Ghana’s finest highlife groups is this one. I found some
terrific LP’s by them on that last fair. The music is fantastic but
the information is confusing. Some of the titles on the label of this
album match the sleeve, some don’t. I have given the Mp3’s the names
from the label and give you both underneath this article. I have the feeling
it is the right album but am not sure, can anyone shine a light on this
matter? I read in a comment at Worldservice, ‘Nkrabea’ means ‘faith’,
now I am not very religious myself but faith is something we all can use.
Listen to Kyeremateng Atwedie and his Kyeremateng Stars.label-tracks;

Dear friends of the Global Groove, on the sixth of may this page
celebrates it’s second birthday. Tonight I’m going to stay online
and post us a couple of killer albums. First to go is this joyful LP.
Quoting the backsleeve;”..the African Brothers have recorded 56
plates on the 45 rpm and this their first Long Play.” Historic material
to accompany a moment like this. To all of you loyal visitors, a happy
day, have some of this sweet birthday pie and do a little dance.tracks;

One of the funkiest, poppiest and most eclectic African artists
is without any doubt Victor Uwaifo. He used to have his own studio’s,
and art-house and was an allround artist. This LP which starts with
some reggaetunes and turns more African along the way is from 1977.
Victor Uwaifo’s guitar rocks as usual, check it yourself.tracks;
1 Five days a week love
2 While the sun shines
3 Sagolomayo ( Titibiti beat )

I can hardly say something useful about this LP.
The web doesn’t give a lot of information and neither does
the sleeve. Sometimes, and I guess you must understand
what I mean, I think maybe it’s best I don’t understand a
word of any African language. I suppose, if you do, you
would not like half of the music you like today. As long as
you don’t know what’s been sung, you can’t dislike it.
Of course I do not mean A.K. Yeboah or K. Mainoo,
the singers on this album, I’m almost sure these lyrics
breathe nothing but Ghanaian Rock and Roll.tracks;
1 Nsabarima
– Minim se nipa bewu a
– Apitsi nko kwa
– Wote pupuu a
– Ayen reku me
– Hwe nea owu aye
– Bo me dua ma menwu

This is a special album, Chief Stephen Osita Osadebe & his
Nigeria Soundmakers on african, ‘the’ Congolese label. I have
become a fan of Stephen Osita since I discovered his music
hardly two years ago. It’s the most mellow feelgood sound.
Listen to this 1977 beauty and agree, good stuff.tracks;
1 Uche chukwu geme
2 Ogo di nkpa
3 People’s club odogwuPosted by Moosat 10:06 PM - Monday April 12, 2010
I was trying to find me some usefull information on this topic,
but Ashanti Brothers Band’s album ‘Kill me and Fly’ seemed
( how about this word ) ungoogleable. The leader of the band’s called
Osei Vasco, and that’s really all I know. Being from 1978, I must
say, the vinyl is in very good condition and spins beautiful.
And then, the music, I have seldom heard such great highlife,
I’m very fund of this sound with warm vocal harmony
and hammond organ !tracks;
1 Kill me and fly
2 Onipa retu ne nan
3 Saa na yede beye wo
4 Asem bone se hiani
5 Gyae nkonta buo yi
