- Tuesday April 13, 20106 comments on Chief Osadebe – 77, vol. 1,african 1977
This is a special album, Chief Stephen Osita Osadebe & his
Nigeria Soundmakers on african, ‘the’ Congolese label. I have
become a fan of Stephen Osita since I discovered his music
hardly two years ago. It’s the most mellow feelgood sound.
Listen to this 1977 beauty and agree, good stuff.tracks;
1 Uche chukwu geme
2 Ogo di nkpa
3 People’s club odogwuPosted by Moosat 10:06 PM - Monday April 12, 2010
I was trying to find me some usefull information on this topic,
but Ashanti Brothers Band’s album ‘Kill me and Fly’ seemed
( how about this word ) ungoogleable. The leader of the band’s called
Osei Vasco, and that’s really all I know. Being from 1978, I must
say, the vinyl is in very good condition and spins beautiful.
And then, the music, I have seldom heard such great highlife,
I’m very fund of this sound with warm vocal harmony
and hammond organ !tracks;
1 Kill me and fly
2 Onipa retu ne nan
3 Saa na yede beye wo
4 Asem bone se hiani

Oriental Brothers albums always find their way to lovers
of Nigerian highlife. A band widely appreciated, that is led
by the brothers Opara. Sometimes by Warrior but this time
by his brother Dan-Satch. Both of them delivered great LP’s
and scored loads of hits during the seventies and eighties.
Sometimes separate and sometimes together, enjoy this 1984
LP of the Oriental Brothers International Band.tracks;

A very popular Nigerian Highlife group is this one. We had two of
their albums before at the GG. The album cover aswell as the label
of this one speak of one track on the A side, I found two so I named
them A and B. Enjoy Super Negro Bantous’ 1977 album.tracks;

Good evening, I found myself playing Ghana highlife this
morning and continued to do so throughout the day. Time
to share some of it with you. Kyeremateng Atwede and his
Stars are here to brighten up your time, whether you listen in
your car, at home or at work, these guys play the real thing.
The sleeve had a whole corner missing so for this one
time I took the liberty to fix it a little bit. Incredible album.tracks;
1 Agya behwe me dabre mu
2 Manhyia no a anka meye den
3 Nsem nyinaa ne nyame

On Soulposters comes this LP, I don’t know from what year it is.
It looks like late 70’s, if anybody knows ? Another Nigerian highlife
band and not the least. I am sorry that it has a couple of songs,
1 and 3 especially, that open with lots of crackles and pops.
Maybe someone can clean it and return, I don’t have that technology.
The album would certainly deserve it, thanks folks, vous amusez.
Click on that pantherprint suit, ain’t that a party outfit ?tracks;
1 Original Super 5 / Tabansi label

I don’t know about you but I am a hopeless layman if it comes
to dealing with computers. If there is a problem I need to get
my system manager to fix it. At this moment I have an argument
with Winamp, it refuses to exercise my rippings. It took me quite
a detour to get the ripping done but pfffiew, I managed.
What have we got today? A collector that, to my surprise, was
released by Phonogram, a Dutch record company. The man who
compiled it, Roy Teysse, sure knew what he was doing. What a heap
of great artists he brought together here. The image of the frontcover
did not like to get registered, the shiny parts are a bit hard to capture
with camera. Hope you enjoy.tracks;

Let’s see what we got here. Smart Nkansah and Agyaaku are friends
since they played together in Yamoah’s Guitar Band in the late 60’s.
They went separate ways for some time, Agyaaku stayed with Yamoah’s
and Smart Nkansah worked with the Sweet Talks. They rejoined and started
this band around 1981. Fellowblogger Likembe already spoke about this album
februari 2009, one year later you can dl it entirely at the GG. Hope U like it.
Fusion of Guitar Band and Dance Band hi-life, with Smart Nkansah’s sister
in law, Becky B doing nice vocals here, this one is for sweet sister Nauma
for leaving such warm comments and that superb link. ***tracks;

Yesterday no post, today two. Oriental Brothers International are
back with a short but fine album at the GG. These guys really love
one another, photo’s didn’t lie back in those days. The brothers Satch,
Dan, Godwin and Warrior scored hit after hit during the 70’s. This ’87 LP
is, if you count Warriors albums aswell, their eighth album here.
I’ve always had a certain weekness for this oriental highlife.tracks;

If you listen to African music some time, take Nigerian music.
You know Juju, Highlife, Fuji, Apala, and then you hear Sir Victor
Uwaifo. I had never heard anything like his music, every song has
something new, original, with surprising instrumental touch. It is
supposingly highlife but with an unusual poppy flavour.
Victor Uwaifo was a professional wrestler in 1960 and
hitmaker in 1970 with ‘Joromi’, and his own
studio and art-laboratory.tracks;
1 Iranm’ iran
2 Ovbialeke bolozo
3 Ewere noyoyo
