This is a re-post. I did this album at the very beginning of the GG
experience. Papaito and Roberto Torres are both great singers in
Son-Cubano. On this LP one presents the other but also participates,
Roberto Torres can be heard in the backing vocal section. This is the
type of Latin music I can’t seem to get around, sweet son…azucar..

It is always a great feeling, searching for nice music on a record-fair,
and than finding a whole box full of rarities. This is what happened at
the last fair. A big pile of Pathé Marconi’s and Sonafric’s in top quality,
changed of owner that day. You lucky bastards have no idea how
I was driving home, I can hardly wait for the next fair.
Listen to this treasure by Max Massengo and realize, this is gold.

I received some kind requests for Sunny Adé and it just so happens
I had this one waiting to get posted. It is Vol. 4 from the Master
Guitarist Series which were recorded in the famous London EMI
studio’s at Abbey Road. Sunny Adé, still without ‘King’, performs
these 10 songs with his Green Spot Band, enjoy.

Emerged from Les Bantous de la Capitale, le Trio CePaKos ( Celio,
Pamelo and Kosmos ) co-founded this Orchestra, ‘Le Peuple’, the people
in 1973. Three vocalists who needed a new band while the band they left
was in need of new singers and recruited Théo Blaise Kounkou, Pambou
Tchico Tchicaya and Joseph ‘José’ Missamou.
From 1975 to sweeten up your life.
I would like to dedicate this post to those 4 nice French
people who visited my little shop this week. You were so enthousiastic
about finding Congolese music here, enjoy it very much !

African Brothers’ International Band

In 1963, Paa Steel Kwame Ampadu started the eight piece African
Brothers Band. After scoring a huge hit with ‘Agyanka daberemu’
in 1966, they went professional in 1967. This is the group’s second
LP and must be from about 1973 when they counted 16 members.
Fantastic Ghana highlife from one of it’s main performers. The LP
also contains Pachanga, Cha cha cha and such, check it out.

Oriental Brothers Internationalled by G. Kabaka Opara -Nnedinobi, Afrodisia 1976
Classic Nigerian Highlife album by one of the leading bands.
Brothers F.Dansatch, G.Kabaka and Worrior Opara made loads of LP’s
and I never heard a bad one. Sleeve of the album states it’s from
1977 and label says 1976, either way, don’t miss it.

use the Search option to get there fast.

Have you had the chance to listen to the 4 reggae collectors
I posted in 2008 ? They were called Reggae Monster Originals.
Search and listen, you’ll find a couple of tracks by Lee van Cliff
aswell. The early eighties sound of the Radics at Channel One
with Scientist producing was simply unique. The way he put an
echo on voices and drumbeats, I love it. Lee van Cliffs broken
voice to round it all up and you got me smoking..

Zaïko Langa-Langa – Tala Modele Echanger,Safari Ambiance
Soukous for soukous-lovers. Zaïko Langa-Langa was one of
the leading bands during the eighties. I have no year on this one,
do you ? Tout Choc, Anti Choc, check it out yourself.

Here’s an old time favourite I used to play very much. It contains
the massive ‘Quitate tu’, a great number that takes you on a trip
for more than 16 minutes. Back in the days, when I deejayed at party’s,
it always came in handy to take a break, toilet, beer at the bar, a little
dance and back behind the turntable, just perfect. Classic Fania
recording, live at the Cheetah, audiance goes crazy, and what a line-up,
Ray Barretto, Willie Colon, Larry Harlow, Johnny Pacheco, Roberto
Roena, Bobby Valentin, Santos Colon, Hector Lavoe, Ismael Miranda,
Pete ‘el Conde’ Rodriguez, Adalberto Santiago, Richie Ray and Bobby Cruz,
José ‘Cheo’ Feliciano, all big names. Wish I were there, how’bout you Arnaud ?

Various Artists – Nalingi Yo Na Motema
When I made this comp of songs of the heart by Congolese artists,
I was looking for a cover and picked this one. It is part of a collage I made
for my Maori friend Tangaroa Tuane. He tattooed my back and I made
him a collage. Always nice to deal without money. Check him at his hyves-
page. http://tangaroatuane.hyves.nl/ . Google on ‘Ta Moko’ and you get an
idea of what he does. About the music, as you can see, a collection of
Congolese tracks, all sung from the heart and about the heart.
