This lp on Decca West Africa is from 1969. It managed to
remain fully intact for 45 years and plays just wonderful.
Trumpeteer E.T. Mensah’s and his Tempos Band played in
various styles, but the traditionals, calypsos and even
soul takes come with highlife toppings. Highlife is his
main thing but E.T. Mensah loved to broaden his horizons.
On this album he gives us some examples of that very
appreciated variety. Get it, spread it
and give it a spin..tracks;
1 Medzi medzi
2 Abodzin
3 Daavi loloto
4 Save me
5 Bibiara wone bre
6 Mee bei obaaba
7 205
8 Kaa no wa
9 Señorita
10 Gbee bleo

Last sunday we had an LP by Syl Johnson on Hi records, now we’re
back with Ann Peebles. If you compare the backcovers of these two
LP’s, we see exactly the same line-up. Both LP’s are produced and
engineered by Willie Mitchell and they both have that fantastic
Hi-sound of the early 70’s. When I play this music, I’m still
impressed like I was first time I heard it. Great soul.tracks;
1 Come to mama
2 I don’t lend my man
3 I needed somebody
4 Stand by woman
5 It was jealousy
6 Doctor love power
7 You can’t hold a man

To increase the variety today, we’ll have us a soul album.
This is Syl Johnson, one of the biggest stars at the ‘Hi-stable’.
Like most albums at ‘Hi’, it is produced by Willie Mitchell,
the man who made Al Green sign up at Hi. He produced Green’s
best work. The sound of this album is typical for Hi records
of this era. Another big star at Hi was ofcourse ‘Ann Peebles’,
we’ll see her back later. Now it’s time for the raw soul of
our man Syl Johnson, get down to it !tracks;
1 Let yourself go
2 Don’t do it
3 I want to take you home ( to see mama )
4 Could I be falling in love
5 Stuck in Chicago

From 1969, this is one of the last albums of ‘The Impressions’.
In 1970, Curtis Mayfield was to leave the Impressions and on the album’s
last track, he gives an example of what he’s about to go doing.
This is one of the first records to appear on Curtis’ label ‘Curtom’.tracks;

2 Choice of colors
3 The girl I find
4 Wherever you leadeth me

If you are a soulmusic lover, you can’t miss this here LP.
‘Otis Redding’, who died far too young, is one of my biggest idols.
With, Andrew Love and Joe Arnold on tenor saxes,
Wayne Jackson on trumpet,
Steve Cropper on guitar,
Booker T Jones and Isaac Hayes on organ & piano,
Donald ‘Duck’ Dunn on bass
and Al Jackson Jr. on drums, this is a fantastic recording.
Produced by Steve Cropper

I remember I discovered ‘Dyke & the Blazers’, back in the eighties
when I was going through my ‘Soulrevival’.
It was in a little old recordstore at the Prinsengracht in Amsterdam.
And it struck me !
Back in those days I bought me a re-release, later I found this
Original. Very groovy funky soul from 1967, a killer !tracks;
