Strictly looking at numbers of comments I can say
African music-genres are doing best at the GG. Do

Orchestre Stukas – l’Afrique Danse
african 360.131, 1979

14 January 2012|Congo|12 Comments

L'Afrique Danse presents

This lp by Orchestre Stukas was waiting to get posted
for quite some time. I was just about to bring it when
‘snap crackle and pops’ posted it. That was almost a
year ago and I think today is the day to re-post so to
speak. I am sorry my copy has a few little pops at the
very beginning of track one. Further than that it is in
fine condition. Lita Bembo and Orchestre Stukas were
extremely popular and the ‘african’ releases
360.130 and 360.131 made
a huge contribution.

“The new music, of which Thu Zahina was a leading
component, was raw and energetic, with emphasis on
spiralling, interactive guitars and rattling snare drums
during the seben, and hardly a horn to be heard. Taking
elements of the animation ( shouting ) from strident forms
of shanty-town music, and also from the wordplay used
at Bakongo funerals, the new bands brought an extra vitality
to the music, adapting traditional dances like the soukous
and inventing new ones such as the ‘cavacha’ to accompany
the extended seben. The groups which capitalised most on
the new wave were Stukas, led by the outrageous showman
Lita Bembo, who played with a frenetic intensity,…”

superb video’s.

Orchestre Sinza – 76
Pathé Marconi / EMI 1975

12 January 2012|Congo|35 Comments

Orchestre Sinza, front

We had several of their lp’s before. Pierre Moutouari,
and his brother Kosmos were part of this great band
through the seventies. This is Orchestre Sinza, the
mordant sound of their electric guitars is brought to
expression in this wonderful frontcover image. See
that vicious looking snake approaching the bass
and suggesting a tension of some kind. Well, just
play it and you’ll understand. You’ll feel a sense
of toxication, stupefying yet not venomous. I dare
say, this lp belongs to the best ever
posted at the Global Groove.

4 Ba kento

Sir Victor Uwaifo, front

Victor Uwaifo’s albums are not widely available as you
might know, therefore I was extra happily surprised to
find this rare 10″ at the last fair. after some whealin’ and
dealin’ it became part of my, and now your, collection.
It seems Sir Victor was crazy about his song ‘joromi’,
it keeps showing up. As for the other nine songs, we
did not have them before. Take’m they’re yours.
Oh..eh, it has a couple tics and tacs
and a minor jump, sorry for that…

Bopol Mansiamina – The Original Innovation
Star Musique

2 January 2012|Congo, Soukous|27 Comments

Bopol, front

Let me tell you straight, this is a masterpiece. I think this
must be Bopol’s best lp ever, damn..I love it. With Nyboma’s
wonderful vocals, Dally on guitar and Bopol on bass, bloody
brilliant. I need to tell you something else. It’s not the first time
that while listening to the music it becomes clear they mixed up
the titles. track one is ‘Cardiaque ya l’amour’ and track two
is obvious ‘Décèption motema’. Both sleeve and label state
the other way around. I changed the tracklist and put it in
the order it is on the actual vinyl, seemed logic, enjoy.

tracks;

1 Cardiaque ya l’amour
2 Décèption motema
3 Issa touré
4 Papy ozonga

Olomide – Ngobila

Olomide, front

Good evening groovers, happy new year. Last night I watched
a fantastic show at BBC 2 television. I had enough wild party’s
in my life and the annual hootenanny with Jools Holland is a
program I always watch when I’m at home newyears eve. He
always has the most wonderful guests, young and older talent
are brought together. It’s a joy to see so many super happy
people enjoying all that marvelous music played alive. The
Dutch new years evening shows can’t compare with this
Brittish masterpiece of TV-making. It is my deepest
wish to, you never know, some day be able to join
that crowd at Jools’ annual show. I can’t imagine
a better party than that one. Do you have
that inside connection ?

Meantime, what have
we got cooking for y’all today ?
Koffi Olomide’s first lp at this page.
Listen and tell me..

Youlou Mabiala – La B.C.C.( Banque Commerciale Congolaise ),Tchi-Tchi

30 December 2011|Congo|11 Comments

Youlou Mabiala, front

Good morning groovers. 2011 went by faster then prehensible.
This is already the last post for this year. It is a 12″ single that
was not for sale. It was a present of the ‘Banque Commerciale
Congolaise’ for their ‘binal annuel’. A rare single by Youlou
Mabiala. I do not know who are accompanying him on this
one, I think it must be his group ‘Kamikaze Loningisa’.
Anyway, thank you all for being such loyal visitors and
keep checking the Global Groove in 2012. We’re
gonna continue to try and bring the unexpected.
Lots of luck and health in the new year !
