I got a few comments on this LP that was posted already some
time ago at Global Groove. There seemed to be something wrong
with the quality, so I decided to rip it again to the latest
standards. Cover scans are also better.
This is an oldie. From 1967 this is Byron Lee with some very
happy music. Jump Up is Calypso related and originally not
from Jamaica. But Byron Lee controlled all Caribbean styles.
If you need to upgrade your party summerstyle, this one is
guaranteed 100 % Jump Up !

Orchestre Régional de Kayes,Musicaphon 1970
For all lovers of Mali music, here’s number 3 out of the 4
that I own in this series. This is Orchestre Régional de Kayes,
lead by bandmaster ‘Harouna Barry’. The fine voice we hear
belongs to ‘Touré’. Enjoy it.

Dear Groovers around the Globe, it’s been three days, time flys.
The problem is not the music, loads of LP’s are piled up,
waiting, fighting in my mind for a place on this humble
page. No, time is the problem. I am too busy doing other things.
But hey, here’s some fresh input, check it out.
From 1978 this is Errol Scorcher & the Revolutionaries
with Sly and Robbie. I was 20, a rookie, as green as grass.
This LP always reminds me of those days, when we used to ‘Kraak’
houses. ( a typical Dutch phenomena, ‘borrow’ an empty house )
With Sly and Robbie at the wheel, you can’t drive wrong,
Fantastic album by Errol Scorcher, great voice, nice songs.
A huge personal favourite.

Being a blogger you keep learning things all the time.
Today we found out that very long titles sometimes frustrate
the process. I now understand why I was unable to rip this LP
before. It has all titles at the A-side glued together and at
the B-side, same story. So I wrote all titles in a row but
Winamp-Pro that I use to rip with, could also not handle this.
Now I found out what caused it I can finally post this LP.
Here’s another great album of Juju music from Nigeria.

I felt like listening to some Samba today, so I ripped this LP
by Clara Nunes for you. Um pouco de samba nunca faz mal.
Produced by Paulo Cesar Pinheiro who also co-wrote the
opening song. Orchestrations were made by maestros Geraldo
Vespar, Ivan Paulo, Nelsinho and Sivuca, not the least

From Cuba, this is Conjunto Casino, well known for their renditions
of many styles. Founded in 1937 as Sexteto Casino and grew
stronger eversince. Ansonia guarantees a fine piece of Latin
music oncemore.

L’Orchestre National ‘A’ de la Républiquedu Mali, Musicaphon 1970
Just after becoming independent in 1970, Mali’s young musicians
started to form a National Orchestra. Since there were much more
good players than needed, they formed A, B and C orchestras.
This was the first of them all, lead by multi-instrumentalist
‘Kélétigui Diabate’. On his West African travels he learned to play
guitar, trumpet, flute, saxophone and counter-bass. He plays the
guitar on this LP. We heard tracks 3 and 5 on the Mali Collector
some time ago already, now here’s also the rest of the only album
ever recorded by this group.

Super Diamono de Dakar in my collection. It sounds quite a bit
more modern than the previous album we saw.
The music is modern and fresh, the singing of Omar Pene,
as sweet as always.

King Sunny Adé and his African Beats

I remember very well when this album came out in 1982.
For most of us West Europeans it must have been the first
encounter with Juju. For me it was. I fel in love with this
music straight away. Have you heard it ?

Luie Lepke – Late Night Movie, Joe Gibbs Music Corp. 1981
Today my fellow Groovers, it’s rainy and grey and I really can’t
seem to think of a theme for the sunday. So with an open mind
I ripped this reggae album for you. It’s an Errol Thompson
production, which I always like. Lui Lepke comes in with this
nice album from 1981, to me this is nostalgia.
