Disques Griot 1976
Hij is uit 1976, dit juweeltje van Ifang Bondi en de Afro Mandingue
Sounds. Sfeervolle plaat, op het Disques Griot label, die ons mee
neemt op een dromerige reis door West Afrika. Oorspronkelijk
heette ze de Super Eagles en komen uit Gambia. In 1969 en 1974
hebben ze diverse Europese hoofdsteden bezocht. Deze plaat is
opgenomen in de Jandeer Night Club in Dakar, Senegal en bevat
songs in diverse stijlen, mandingo, pop, mbalax, zeg het maar..
It is from 1976, this jewell by Ifang Bondi and the Afro Mandingue
Sounds. Very atmospheric record, on the Disques Griot label, which
takes us on a dreamy journey through West Africa. Originally they
were called the Super Eagles and come from Gambia. In 1969 and
1974 they visited various European capitals. This album was recorded
in the Jandeer Night Club in Dakar, Senegal and contains songs in
various styles such as mandingo, pop, mbalax, you tell us..
What Discogs fails to tell us is that there is an error made on the
label and on the backsleeve. The numbers Xaleli Africa and Saraba
have been switched, so I kindly switched them back for you..

Massive Dread – It’s Massive
Upfront 1983
Early eighties was the time me and my buddies went out
to search for reggae albums. Nowadays the stuff we bought
in them days go for crazy prices. Sometimes I think I should
have bought much more than I did. One can’t predict the
future though and we were very lucky already. Massive
Dread had a very relaxed way of toasting, listen
to this 1983 album and enjoy doing so..
Als je ziet wat men tegenwoordig voor prijzen betaalt voor
de reggae plaatjes uit de vroege jaren tachtig. In die tijd trokken
we erop uit en kochten heel wat van dit spul. Had ik maar veel
meer gekocht denk je wel eens maar als je alles van te voren
weet.. Massive Dread had zo zijn eigen stijl van toasten, heel
relaxed, luister hier eens naar en maak er een dansje bij..

Augustus Pablo – East of the River Nile
Message Rockers Production 1978
Listening to track #8 one starts singing,”Africahaa must be free,
by the yeahear 1983..” in your head you hear Hugh Mundell..
Augustus Pablo brings these almost dubs of twelve songs of
which we know some. Rare production from 1978 which
contains Pablo’s breakthrough ‘East of the River Nile’.
An all instrumental album this time..
Luisterend naar track #8 begin je spontaan te zingen, “Africahaa
must be free, by the yeahear 1983..” In je hoofd hoor je Hugh
Mundell.. Augustus Pablo kwam met dit album in 1978 met
twaalf songs die bijna dub zijn. Het bevat zijn doorbraak,
‘East of the River Nile’. Een instrumentaaltje dit keer..

Errol Dunkley – O.K. Fred
Celluloïd 1979
O.K. Fred was a huge hit, written by John Holt in 1972, Errol
Dunkley scored with it again in 1979. On Celluloïd, this is the
original Channel One release. We used to play it a whole lot
back in the days. It still stands strong today, listen..
P.S. I have added John Holt’s original as a bonus.
We hebben hem heel wat gedraaid in de jaren tachtig, O.K. Fred
was een gigantische hit. Origineel van John Holt uit 1972, Errol
Dunkley scoorde er nog eens mee in 1979. Op Celluloïd is dit
de oorspronkelijke Channel One uitgave, luister..

Every now and then I stumble upon an album of which I’m sure
I have posted it in the past but somehow has disappeared from
the Global Groove. Heritage from the time before we had our
own server. Blogspot just threw away certain posts without
warning those days. Anyway, here it is again cuz it’s a hell of
a record and one of my favourite Yellowman albums. 10 inch,
from 1984, you don’t know it..? better listen quickly then..
Eens in de zoveel tijd kom ik er weer zo eentje tegen, een plaat
waarvan ik zeker weet dat ik hem in het verleden al eens heb gepost.
Erfenis van de periode voordat we onze eigen server hadden. Blogspot
donderde zo’n post gewoon weg zonder enige vorm van waarschuwing.
Scahandalig natuurlijk, hoe dan ook, hier is ie weer want het blijft een dijk
van een plaat en een van mijn lievelings Yellowman albums. Op 10 inch

Hit Bound 1982
Hij verdient wat extra aandacht, vandaar deze re-post.
Backing door de Roots Radics met Flabba Holt, Style,
Bingy Bunny, Dwight Pickney, Steele en Sky Juice. Sinds de aanschaf
in 1982 reeds een van m’n favoriete reggae platen. Die dikke ‘Hit Bound’
klanken zijn onovertroffen. Gemixed door Scientist en dat is te horen,
dub met vokalen. Opgenomen in Channel One Studio’s, geproduceerd
door Niney Holmes en Joseph Hoo Kim, wat een kraker..
It deserves some extra attention hence this here re-post.

Favourite reggae albums. The fatback ‘Hit Bound’ sound is unsurpassed.

Trojan 1979
De laatste tijd heb ik bar weinig aandacht besteed aan reggae.
Toen er van de week iemand riep ‘meer reggae s.v.p.’ dacht ik,
laten we eens een weekje vergeten reggaeplaten doen. Trojan
bracht in 1979 deze uit met de toen nog jonge Sugar Minott.
Ik kocht hem toen 21 jaar oud, verdorie, de tijd vliegt.
Ondertussen een klassieker geworden, een snoepje..
Lately I have neclected reggae music a bit, so when someone
shouted for more reggae the other day, I thought, let’s do a
week of forgotten reggae albums. In 1979 Trojan brought this
album with, the then still young, Sugar Minott. I bought it
then 21 years old, damn, time sure flies. Meantime
it grew to be a classic record, sweet suff..

You know they say a dog is a man’s best friend. It is true, I had
two dogs in my life and they really were my best friends. The last
one is still visible in the header of the Global Groove. There
was this moment however I was not amused, my first dog ate a
part of the sleeve of this record. I took a clean sleeve from the
web to put in the file for you. Maybe that’s why I never posted
this album until now. It is a killer record, a must have if you don’t.

Je weet dat men zegt dat de hond de beste vriend is die je hebben
kunt. Het is waar, ik heb twee honden gehad in mijn leven, eentje
is nog altijd zichtbaar in de header van de Global Groove. Er was
echter een moment dat ik minder blij was, mijn eerste hond, hij
heette ook nog Rasta, heeft een stuk van de hoes van deze plaat
opgegeten. Verdorie, daar baalde ik van, misschien heb ik deze
plaat daarom nog nooit gepost. het is een killer die je zeker in je
collectie hebben wil. Ik heb een schone versie voor je in de file

Les Choc Stars du Zaïre – Ben Nyamabo
Espera 1989
Op verzoek van Harris hebben we vandaag deze elpee van
Les Choc Stars du Zaïre. De plaat is uit 1989 en dat is goed
te horen. Zoals je op de voorkant kunt zien is hij gemaakt
in Brussel, opgenomen in Studio Madeleine aldaar. De
sound is in de loop der jaren tamelijk gemoderniseerd.
Wat meer keys dan voorheen, wel mooie vokalen.
Lekkere harmonica in nummer 8 en 9 van de plaat..
On request by Harris today we have this elpee by Les Choc
Stars du Zaïre. The record is from 1989 and that is clear to
hear. As you can see on the frontsleeve it was made in Brussels,
recorded in Studio Madeleine in Belgiums capital. The sound has
changed quite a bit over the years, more keys than before.
I really do like the vocal parts on this album, also nice
harmonica in track 8 and 9 of the record..

This is the fourth album by Les Frères Dejean and is seen as a
milestone in the long career they had and still have. With the
brothers Fred, André, Philippe and Camille Dejean. Nine other
musicians complete the band. It is released by Rotel Records,
recording engineer was Henri Debs in Dimensional Sound
Studios in New York. Listen and enjoy..

Vandaag verwen ik je met nog zo’n beauty van Combo Los
Galleros met de geweldige Lucy Gonzalez. Wat een krachtig
stemgeluid had die meid. Niet alleen Lucy maar de hele band
komt hier goed voor de dag. Ook met de groten Julio de la
Ossa en Lucho Argain is dit een plaat om niet te missen..
Today I’m spoiling you with another great album by Combo
Los Galleros with Lucy Gonzalez. What a powerful voice she
had. Not only Lucy but the whole group excels here. Also with
stars like Julio de la Ossa and Lucho Argain this is a record
not to be missed. Get it and spread it like usual..

Sound Point / Afrodisia 1978
Het is een hele fijne verzameling songs uit Zaïre uit 1978. De
omschrijving van de nummers en bijbehorende artiesten is
een beetje vaag. Vooral bij het laatste nummer is het niet zo
duidelijk wie de uitvoerende artiesten zijn. Eén ding is zeker,
stuk voor stuk zijn het heerlijke nummers met dito vokalen,
gitaren en hoorns. Dit soort cavacha behoort
tot mijn favorieten..
Tot dusver hadden we volumes 1,3 en 5.
( vol.1 is African Fiesta, hoort er misschien niet bij )
Volgens Shazam is track 8 Orchestre Cavacha.
This is a very fine collection of songs from Zaïre from 1978.
the description of tracks however is a little vague. Especially
with the final track it is not exactly clear who are the artists
playing it. One thing is clear, all songs are delightful with
likewise vocals, guitars and horns. This is the
type of cavacha we like best..
So far we had volumes 1,3 and 5.
( Vol.1 is African fiesta, maybe not part of the series )
According to Shazam track 8 is orchestre Cavacha.

Celi Bitshou – Lula

It is not exactly clear from what year this record is, it feels
like around 1985. On the lesser known label Kina-Rama.
His name is spelled differently every time, first as Bittsu,
then as Bishou, and now as Bitshou. One way or the other,
his music is hot. Celi Bitshou was one of Franco’s singer-
songwriters once. This is the third album we have with him
and it sounds wonderful, listen to it yourself..
Het is niet duidelijk uit wel jaar deze plaat stamt, het voelt
als rond 1985. Op het minder gangbare label Kina-Rama.
Zijn naam wordt telkens anders gespeld, eerst als Bittsu,
dan als Bishou, nu weer als Bitshou. Hoe dan ook, zijn muziek
is hot. Celi Bitshou was ooit een van Franco’s zangers en song
schrijvers. Dit is het derde album wat we met hem hebben en
het klinkt weer als een klokje, luister zelf..
