- Saturday November 8, 200811 comments on Michael Prophet – Jah Love, Live & Learn 1983
Let’s start this saturday with some reggae music.
One of Jamaica’s greater singers is without doubt Michael Prophet.
I think he’s been underestimated widely. Ever since I bought
this old record in 1983, I had a weakness for his singing.
Backed by the ‘Hi Times Band’, this is a splendid reggae album.
I used to play these songs a lot back in the 80’s when I had
my weekly reggaenight in a local youthcenter in my town.
It’s time to play ‘It’s time’ one more time. ( track #2 )tracks;
1 Instruction

4 2000 years
5 You been talking
6 I certify
7 Tonight tonight
8 Jah love
9 World of confusionPosted by Moosat 8:36 AM - Thursday October 30, 2008
Lee Perry and his Upsetters are back with the Return of

Lee Perry has always been a wizard if we speak about reggae dub.
He was one of the first to mix all kinds of daily noises through
his music. You hear dogs bark, cows moo and baby’s cry.
I always loved this old record, it spent quite some hours on
top of my turntable. Great dubmusic, a classic.tracks;
1 Zions blood
2 Croaking lizard
3 Black vest
4 Underground
5 Curly dub
6 Dread lion

R.I.P. Alton Ellis, 1938 – 2008
This afternoon I found out that one of my biggest idols has left
this world. He was known as the Godfather of Rocksteady.
Ska develloped through Rocksteady to Reggae and Alton Ellis
was there, inventing it.
This is his finest album to my opinion, it’s produced by
Cocksone Dodd on Studio One. He also recorded a lot of his
music in the Treasure Isle Studio’s. The above story, taken from
the Rough Guide to Reggae, illustrates that fact.
I have added 4 of his other great songs as a bonus.
Alton, you’ll live on in my heart forever.tracks;
1 Joy in the morning
2 Sunday coming
3 These eyes
4 Hurting me
5 It’s true
6 Alton’s groove
7 What does it take to win your love
8 The picture was you
9 Gonna take a miracle
10 Your heart is gonna pay
11 Wide awake in a dream
12 You make me so very happy
13 Reasons in the sky
14 The winner ( ext. version )Bonus tracks;
15 Dance crasher
16 Ain’t that loving you
17 Willow tree

We’ve heard a lot of African music lately, many Jamaican singers
claim they want to repatriate and go back to Africa, to Ethiopia.
Johnnie Ringo is on another trip, maybe he expected to sell more
albums in the USA, being a cowboy. But reggae aswell as all
other black music, leads us eventually back to Africa.tracks;
1 Horse man
2 Connection of connection
3 Jah Jah guide over me
4 Gun shot
5 Ringo life story
6 Don’t know much
7 Water tank
8 Morning flight
9 Me no want
10 I can’t stand itPosted by Moosat 9:49 PM - Saturday October 4, 2008
In reggae music there is this phenomena; Bands play sets of
numbers which are stored at the recordcompany. A singer comes in,
picks a set he or she likes and creates his own album out of it.
This LP by Lui Lepke is an example of such a creation.
Lui Lepke used the same tracks for this LP as Don Carlos
and Gold on this_one.
Compare those backcovers and rhythms, same line-up, everything.
Still, not a bad word is said here, I love both of them so
the formula works just fine.Enjoy this.
tracks;
1 Willie Red
2 Sharron
3 Bank clerk
4 Lorna
5 Brooklyn jogging
6 42nd street
7 Jamaica a fi mi country
8 Chicken farm
9 Proud a wePosted by Moosat 8:38 PM - Sunday September 28, 2008
Who is the reggae singer with the sweetest voice on earth ?
Horace Andy is the name, this is an early recording called
after his huge hit, ‘Skylarking’. You might know him by his
collaboration with the English group ‘Massive Attack’.
This is an album, produced by the legendary Cocksone Dodd
on his Studio One label. A must have.tracks;
1 Where do the children play
2 Just say who
3 Love of a woman
4 Skylarking
5 Mammie blue
6 Please don’t go
7 Every tongue shall tell
8 Something on my mind
9 See aman’s face
10 Don’t cry
11 I’ll be gone
12 Got to be surePosted by Moosat 5:13 PM - Saturday September 20, 2008
THIS IS A REPOST !
I got a few comments on this LP that was posted already some
time ago at Global Groove. There seemed to be something wrong
with the quality, so I decided to rip it again to the latest
standards. Cover scans are also better.This is an oldie. From 1967 this is Byron Lee with some very
happy music. Jump Up is Calypso related and originally not
from Jamaica. But Byron Lee controlled all Caribbean styles.
If you need to upgrade your party summerstyle, this one is
guaranteed 100 % Jump Up !tracks;
1 Riverbank Jump Up
2 Benwood Dick
3 El negrito
4 The road march
5 Jamaica Jump Up
6 Happy wanderer
7 Elaine, Harry and mama
8 Second hand piano
9 St. Thomas
10 Village ram
11 Surprise merengue
12 Laziest manPosted by Moosat 9:08 PM - Tuesday September 16, 2008
Dear Groovers around the Globe, it’s been three days, time flys.
The problem is not the music, loads of LP’s are piled up,
waiting, fighting in my mind for a place on this humble
page. No, time is the problem. I am too busy doing other things.
But hey, here’s some fresh input, check it out.From 1978 this is Errol Scorcher & the Revolutionaries
with Sly and Robbie. I was 20, a rookie, as green as grass.
This LP always reminds me of those days, when we used to ‘Kraak’
houses. ( a typical Dutch phenomena, ‘borrow’ an empty house )
With Sly and Robbie at the wheel, you can’t drive wrong,
Fantastic album by Errol Scorcher, great voice, nice songs.
A huge personal favourite.tracks;
1 Steppin’ worldwide
2 Sister Pat
3 Cardiac arrest, instradub
4 Jolly bus ting
5 Show I the way
6 Heart failure, instradub
7 One man ranch
8 Rockers hat
9 Post mortem, instradub
10 Jump and prance
11 Baby mutha
12 Rigor mortis, instradubPosted by Moosat 8:43 PMCategories

Today my fellow Groovers, it’s rainy and grey and I really can’t
seem to think of a theme for the sunday. So with an open mind
I ripped this reggae album for you. It’s an Errol Thompson
production, which I always like. Lui Lepke comes in with this
nice album from 1981, to me this is nostalgia.tracks;
1 Go to school
2 Rent man scank
3 Late night movie
4 Rose Marie
5 Penitentiary
6 Tribute to Bob Marley
7 Love ina jam down
8 She is a part of my life
9 Praise his majesty
