One of the reggae LP’s I played very much is this one by Don Carlos.
He’s got a voice you can recognize from thousands, one of the sweetest
in Jamaica. Accompanied by the cream of the crop, Sly & Robbie, Leroy
Wallace, Loyd Parks, Ainsel Collins, R. Lynn, W. Wright, Dougie, Bo Peep,
Bubbler, Sky Juice and of course Goldie Locks (photo). Recorded at Tuff
Gong and Channel One Studios by E. Brown, S. Stewart and Bunnie Tom Tom.tracks;

This is a classic album by a group that even Bob Marley had
great admiration for. Justin Hines and the Dominoes made this
’76 album with the Black Disciples, the same group, Winston
Rodney alias Burning Spear made some records with in the same
period. Have you seen the movie ‘Rockers’? It ends with the song,
this LP opens with. What a splendid film, starring some of the
greatest reggae artists as themselves. Gregory Isaacs, Robbie
Shakespeare, Dillinger, Burning Spear and Jacob Miller among others.
I found this fantastic scene at Youtube in which we see Leroy
‘Horsemouth’ Wallace, the famous drummer with Richard ‘Dirty Harry’
Hall entering a typical disco discotheque, check out what happens.
Classic scene from a classic movie you really must have seen.

I don’t know why but I’ve got a feeling the Da da demonstration
is coming again. Joshua’s desire, a place called Africa is only
a matter of time now. Poor Chubby’s got to beat down Babylon.

Hello Groovers,
what happened this morning. I visited a fellow music blog, one I had
linked at my own sidebar, when I found out he had turned the blog
into a site where you pay for every song you download. I thought
the whole idea behind these pages was to share your old vinyl-
collection with your friends online. At this blog the music always
was, is, and will be FREE. Sharing my old records with you guys makes
me feel good, I hope it does you too. I removed that link from my page.
Bye Bye !To demonstrate this feeling I ripped us a great old reggae album. One
that always had a special place with me. Horace Andy’s voice is very
unique, one you can always easily recognize. Great songs, produced by
Bullwackie in a great way, strongly overdubbed and with a fine message.
Money, money, money, root of all evil !
It was about time I posted some reggae by the way, much too long ago !tracks;
1 Money money
2 Lonely woman
3 Cuss cuss
4 Stop the fuss
5 Spying glass

Track 12, Slide Mongoose, sounds very much like another well
known song. I first heard it as ‘All for you’ by E.T. Mensah,
being Highlife from Ghana. A couple of albums ago we heard Sami
Kamara from Sierra Leone doing it as ‘All for you tete’.
Mento, Calypso and Highlife are very much alike, and with this
song, Sugar Belly demonstrates that fact very nicely.
Although this album is on ‘Port-O-Jam’, we could say it is an
early ‘Studio One’ recording, Clement Coxone Dodd is the man
behind it all.tracks;
1 Linstead market
2 Wings of a dove
3 River Ben come down
4 Land of sea and sun
5 Soldering
6 Jamaica farewell
7 Archie
8 Rucumbine

One of my all time favourite reggae bands is Israel Vibration.
These three singers change places all the time, when one takes
the lead, the other two do background vocals.
Their songs are always friendly and the overall feeling you
get is one of ultimate sympathy. When you have the CD of this
album, you’ll find that they, for some reason, turned the picture
mirrorwise. This is the original LP with the original photo.
If I am right it is from 1981, please correct me if I’m wrong.
Mixed by Scientist and produced by Henry ‘Junjo’ Lawes at
Channel One Studio’s.tracks;
1 Universal father
2 Why you so craven
3 On Jah solid rock

Somewhere probably late 60’s, Esso made theirselves this
funny collector. They found Young Killer to make ‘Tiger in
your tank’ and collected a few big names to complete the set.
Mighty Sparrow and the Merrymen could also use a buck or two,
so they joined in. On track 4 we hear a steelband play ska,
that was the first time for me. The Don Drummond tribute
scores too, I am a big Don Drummond fan, legendary trombone.
All together we’ve got us a funny gem with a nice cover and
a few great tracks.tracks;
1 Young Killer – Tiger in your tank
2 Carlos Malcolm Orchestra – Tribute to Don Drummond
3 The Merrymen – Never on a sunday
4 Westside Symphony Orchestra – Jamaica ska
5 Clarence Curvan Orchestra – Mama dis is mas
6 The Mighty Sparrow – She’s been gone too long
7 André Tanker Flamingoes – Linstead market
8 The Mighty Dougla – Leave mePosted by Moosat 9:40 PMCategories

When it comes to handling smooth ballads, Lord Creator always
was a class of his own. In the 60’s he recorded Calypso
and also Ska, but his style was quite different from what
others were doing those days. Lord Creator was born Kentrick
Patrick in San Fernando, Trinidad, but spent a lot of years in
Jamaica. “When UB40 honoured the quality of his ‘Kingston Town’,
and included it on their ‘Labour of Love’ cover version album,
Creator was able to buy a house in Jamaica from the Royalties.”

The Ethiopians started out as a vocal duo, Leonard Dillon and
Stepen Taylor, who cut a number of hits for Studio One in the 60’s.
Taylor died unfortunate in a car accident in 1975. This is Leonard
Dillon’s return with sir Cocksone Dodd at Studio One, a sweet album.
Always LOVED it and I still do.tracks;
