From Cabo Verde we find this album with the late and
great singer Bana. His real name was Adriano Gonçalves.
Bana was born in Mindelo, Cabo Verde, but also lived in
Rotterdam, Paris and Lisbon for some time. He played
his roll in the discovery of Cesária Evora. Bana himself
was called the king of morna. Listen to

‘late & great’ Bana. Zijn werkelijke naam was Adriano
Gonçalves. Bana werd geboren in Mindelo, Kaap Verdië,

He hails from the Cape Verdian Islands and worked from
Portugal from the 60’s and 70’s with his Conjunto de Mornas.
The first track of this album from 1976 is coladera, but further
you’ll find a lot of the mellow moody morna. This is the first
record we have with guitarist Marino Silva. I wouldn’t mind
finding more of his work. Get it and spread it ..

Good morning, a group about which we only find some
summary information is this one from the Cape Verdean
Islands. Funny thing is that I found it in Lisbon, Portugal,
but discovered it was recorded in my hometown, Hilversum
in the Netherlands. One way or the other Os Tubarões (the
Sharks) played various styles from ‘Cabo Verde’, funaná,
tabanka, morna and coladera. This is their first album

Cape Verdean band founded in Rotterdam, Netherlands in 1966. Their
repertoire included Cape Verdean music such as the coladera and morna,
American and European pop and rock, as well as Colombian cumbia,
Dominican merengue, and Cuban guaracha. The original members were
Luis Morais (Saxophone & Clarinet), Morgadinho (Trumpet, Vocals, Bass),
Frank Cavaquinho (Drums), Jean Da Lomba (Bass Guitar), and Toy Ramos
(Guitar). They were later joined by the singer Diosinha and organist Chico
Serra in 1968. The original band split up in 1970 after a second tour in Angola.
Some of the members immigrated to the United States and France. In Portugal
the group Voz De Cabo Verde carried on in name, but with different members,
recording several albums throughout the 1970s, but

Bana is back here today with an album on which coladera and
morna. The Cape Verdian atmosphere is always a delight liste-
ning to. Especially the morna’s are favourite here.

eilanden, van de hand van Cesaria Evora. Vandaag voegen we er
eentje aan toe. Het Conjunto van Luiz Morais zorgt voor de kalme
instrumentatie en Bana voor de vokalen. Heerlijk mellow spul
voor de zomeravonden. Luister en geniet van
‘Nha Terra Cabo-Verde’..

We had us only one record from the Cape Verdian Islands so far,
from the hand of Cesaria Evora. Today we can finally add one.
Luiz’ Morais Conjunto takes care of the mellow instrumentation
and Bana of the vocal parts. Morna is sweet and laidback music
