It was in May 2009 that I visited Paris to do some crate
digging over there. In a small shop called Crocodisc I
first got acquainted with the works of Raphy Leavitt
y su Orquesta La Selecta. It was the album ‘Jibaro Soy’
that I found. Ever since that day I started buying every-
thing I find by them. Today we’ve got the record that
came out before ‘Jibaro Soy’. From 1972 this is ‘Mi
Barrio’, on Borinquen in Puerto Rico ..

In de maand Mei 2009 was ik in Parijs om aldaar eens
wat platenzaken af te struinen. In een kleine winkel met
de naam Crocodisc maakte ik voor hey eerst kennis met
het werk van Raphy Leavitt y sy Orquesta La Selecta. Het
was ‘t album ‘Jibaro Soy’ het welk enorme impact op me
had. Sindsdien koop ik alles wat ik van ze tegenkom.
Vandaag het album ‘Mi Barrio’ dat uitkwam voor ‘Jibaro
Soy’. Deze is uit 1972 en op Borinquen uit Puerto Rico ..

Flor Morales Ramos or Ramito, el Cantor de la Montaña, had
two brothers who also were jibaro singers. He also had a son
who joined in the action, Vitín Morales or Ramito Hijo is present
on this album from 1977. They sing a couple of songs together,
tracks 4 and 7. Track #9 is with Vitín solo. This is about the 15th
and last unposted record I have with the great Ramito,
who knows we’ll find another one fine day ..

Flor Morales Ramos of Ramito, el Cantor de la Montaña, had twee
broers die ook jibaro zangers waren. Hij had ook een zoon die hem
vergezelde in de actie. Vitín Morales of Ramito Hijo is mede present
op deze plaat uit 1977. Ze zingen twee nummers samen, 4 en 7. Track
#9 is met Vitín solo. Dit is het 15de album en voorlopig het laatste
dat ik nog niet gepost had met de grote Ramito,
wie weet op een mooie dag opgevolgd ..

I found this wonderful record at a fellow blog called La
Caja de Pandora. It doesn’t exist anymore unfortunately.
I was thrilled to discover Jibaro from Puerto Rico and over
the years found quite some records myself. Check our

Today we find this record with ‘the King of Jibaro music’.
He was also called ‘El Cantor de la Montaña’. His real name
was Florencio Morales Ramos but we know him as Ramito.
His two brothers Luis and Juan Maria were jibaro singers
as well. Here at the Global Groove he was called Mr. Machete
by some visitors, often showing this tool on the sleeves of

Estiby, who is from Puerto Rico, wrote all songs, he is also
singer and conductor of the group. The elpee was recorded

His jibaro is always christal clear and very strong sounding. Songs
about his love for Puerto Rico and live Borincano. I am a fan since
the very first notes I heard. There is no escaping

De plaat is al oud, waarschijnlijk uit de jaren zeventig, en toen waren
deze pracht artiesten zelf ook al oudjes. Maar luister eens hoe ze er
plezier in hadden, het bruist in deze Jibaro. We hadden al zeven van
Chuito’s albums, vind ze simpelweg door ‘Chuito’ in te tikken in onze
zoekbalk links. Op Ansonia en nog als nieuw. Download , pak uit, luister

The record is already old, probably from the seventies, and the three
artists were quite old in those days already. However, they are obviously
having fun recording it, this Jibaro is just sparkling. We had seven of his
albums so far, find them easily by typing ‘Chuito’ in our search-bar left.

quite an impression. Brisas Navideñas is a very strong album..

We kenden reeds Ramito, Chuito, German Rosario en odilio
Gonzalez om maar enkele Jibaro vertolkers te noemen. Vandaag
de eerste vrouw in het gezelschap. La Calandria verschijnt op Ansonia
met dit stevige album. Ze gaat vergezeld door Claudio Ferrer en zijn
Jibaros en maakt een zeer krachtige indruk. Niet te versmaden..

We kennen de grote Ramito, jibaro uit Puerto Rico en hadden reeds
vele van zijn albums. Dit keer eentje van zijn broer Luis Morales Ramos.
Hij speelt hier met de koning op Cuatro Maso Rivera en el Conjunto
Cuerdas del Plata op Boricua Records. Leuke verrassing voor de liefhebbers
en minder bekend. Ramito heeft nog een broer, Juan Maria, die zanger was.

We all know Ramito, jibaro from Puerto Rico, and had a bunch of his albums.
This time a record by his brother Luis Morales Ramos. He appears with the king
on cuatro, Maso Rivera and el Conjunto Cuerdas del Plata on Boricua Records.
A nice surprise for lovers of the genre and lesser known. Ramito has another
brother, Juan Maria, who was also a singer. We hope to find one of his records
