father’s tunes, refined them and added more modern beats.
Pa Ayinde Bakare, the father, had been playing since 1933
and died in 1972. The album we have here is from 1976
and was dedicated to his old dad. Juju from the past,
put in a new coat by Shina Abiodun Bakare’s
Meranda Band ..

Zo vader, zo zoon.
Shina Abiodun Bakare nam zijn vader’s
muziek, verfijnde deze en voegde wat modernere beats
toe. Pa Ayinde Bakare, de vader, speelde zijn juju al sinds
1933 en overleed in 1972. De plaat die we hier hebbem
komt uit 1976 en werd opgdragen aan zijn zijn oude vader.

Jacob Oluwole’s juju is reminiscent of the sound of early
Sunny Adé records. I recently found this album of which
unfortunately we can’t read the title. Its frontsleeve is
somewhat damaged over the years. No title, no year of
release. I’ve been searching the web, but without result.

Jacob Oluwole’s juju doet denken aan het geluid van vroege
platen van Sunny Adé. Ik vond onlangs deze plaat waarvan we
tot mijn spijt geen titel kunnen lezen. De hoes is over de jaren
beschadigd geraakt. Geen titel, geen jaar van uitgifte. Ik heb
het web afgezocht, maar zonder resultaat. Als jij de plaat hebt
of kent, stuur ons s.v.p. een foto zodat we hem kunnen
benoemen, bij voorbaat dank ..

On this album from 1977 Lanrewaju Adepoju shows his
admiration for Sunny Adé. It is in juju and ewi style. We
see him at the back sleeve with Sunny Adé, not sure if
Sunny participates. Side one sounds like him, if you
can tell us, please do ..

voor Sunny Adé. Het is in juju en ewi stijl. We zien hem achterop
de plaat met Sunny Adé, ik weet niet zeker of Sunny ook werkelijk
meespeelt. Kant 1 klinkt wel als hem, als jij het weet, vertel het
ons dan ook alsjeblieft ..

This is Waida Ayinla Yusuf Gbogbolowo, better known as
Ayinla Omowura. Ayinla’s apala is hot here at the GG. His
album ‘Ire Wole De’ from 1974 is the download champion
with 3138 times. Over a thousand more than the number
two which is Arsenio Rodriguez’ album ‘Primitivo’. Ayinla
Omowura has five records here, no idea why ‘Ire Wole De’
has so much more downloads than his other records. The
second one is ‘Omi Tuntun Tiru with 1499 downloads.
One way or the other, this is great apala, deep talking
drum sound, don’t miss it ..
