Hello, good morning, let me start with this; to all audiophile
listeners, do not touch this, it is just not for you ! This album
from 1977 with Honourable Vincent Ugabi has some scratches.
This is no reason however not to post it. His Etsakor sound is
incredibly nice. Already from the first minutes I am convinced
that it is one of his finest records. We had quite some albums
with Vincent, but the funkiness we hear on this one is new.
Interested ? Get it and spread it ..

Hoi, goeiemorgen, om te beginnen dit; aan alle audiofiele luis-
teraars, blijf hier van af, het is gewoon niet voor jou. Deze plaat
uit 1977 met Honourable Vincent Ugabi heeft wat krasjes. Dit
is echter voor mij geen reden om hem niet te plaatsen. Zijn
Etsakor sound is ongelooflijk fijn. Al tijdens de eerste minuten
was ik ervan overtuigd, dit is één van zijn betere platen. We
hadden al diverse van zijn elpees, maar zo funky als deze heb
je nog niet gehoord. Dus, down, deel en luister ..

Good morning, if we would organize a contest, to see
which album here score’s the highest on great song titles,
this here record would certainly end up in the top 10.
Part from that the deep Etsakor highlife with the raw voice
of Mr. Lawani puts this elpee on quite some wishlists.

Goeiemorgen, als we zouden kijken welk album op de site
de meest geweldige titels heeft, zou deze plaat absoluut
hoog eindigen. Los daarvan plaatst de diepe Etsakor highlife
met de heer Lawani’s rauwe stem deze elpee op menig
verzamelaars wens lijst. We hadden reeds twee van zijn

In 1983 Sir Waziri launched his own record label, Waziri
Records. This is the first release under that name. I’m
sorry for its quite bad sound quality, but I’m sure we had
worse. Part from that it is a valuable addition to Waziri’s

In 1983 lanceerde Sir Waziri Oshomah zijn eigen platen
label Waziri Records. Dit is het eerste album op dat label.
Het spijt me voor de tamelijk slechte geluids kwaliteit, maar
ik weet zeker dat we ze nog wel beroerder hebben gehad.
Los daarvan is dit een waardevolle tovoeging aan zijn

Etsakor section is the music of I.I. Ayeni & his Group.
We’ve been dreaming on three of his albums so far,
today we find the fourth. Mesmerizing deep
highlife with the Chief ..

As most of our Etsakor highlife records, this one with Chief
I.I. Ayeni is also not free of noise. Being from 1979 it could
have been worse though. It is the third album we have with
the chief and the oldest until now. Slow music
from Ora, Bendel State ..

Zoals de meeste Etsakor platen in de collectie is ook deze niet
vrij van wat achtergrond geluid. Uitgebracht in 1979 had het
nog wel erger kunnen zijn, we doen her ermee. Het is de derde
die we tot dusver van hem hebben en de oudste zover.

They were crazy about the Peugeot 504 in
those days, I count at least 12 ..

An Etsakor highlife record with quite a different sound
than the ones we’ve heard before is this one with Sir
Maliki Shoman & the Golden 9 of Africa. It is very laid-back
and relaxed. Sir Maliki brings an ode to the drivers community.

“The driver has a duty being a driver. Without them, you wouldn’t
travel via road. Join me in thanking the drivers. Remember that it
matters not if the driver is a driver of Volks, Taxi etc. Blessing
unto those entitled as drivers ……… And praise and gratitude
be to the elders, in the scenery of music. More grease to
their elbows and ……. pats on their back.” (Sir Maliki Shoman)

Deze Etsakor highlife plaat klinkt tamelijk anders dan degene
die we eerder hoorden. Het is er een met Sir Maliki Shoman &
the Golden 9 of Africa. Hij is zeer relaxed, Sir Maliki brengt
hier een ode aan de Chauffeurs gemeenschap ..

in finding this music has constant demand from countries
all over the world, especially Japan. We’re lucky to find yet
another album with Honourable Vincent Ugabi and his
Dance Band. ‘Osaboh Nº1’ is from 1981 and appears on
Ebohon Records from Benin City ..

Etsakor highlife platen worden steeds meer gezocht. De
man bij wie ik de muziek over het algemeen vind krijgt
wereldwijd vraag, voornamelijk uit Japan. We zijn hier
fortuinlijk en vinden vandaag deze met Honourable
Vincent Ugabi’s Dance Band. ‘Osaboh Nº1’ is uit 1981
en verschijnt op Ebohon Records uit Benin City ..

When looking at Etsakor highlife and the field of artists
one person stands out like no other. Alhaji Waziri Oshomah
is here with this 1986 album on Shanu Olu Records. Waziri’s
wife Hassanah is present like on most of his records, sweet.

Als we de highlife uit Etsakor onder de loep nemen valt één
man het meest op. Alhaji Waziri Oshomah is hier met zijn
album ‘Message to My people’ op Shanu Olu Records uit
1986. Waziri’s vrouw Hassanah is ook weer van de partij.

Today’s album concerns a rare Aibor Bello and his Aloagbaye.
The two records we had so far are to be found in Discogs’
discography, this one is not. It is from 1980 and appears
on DES Records. An awesome piece of Etsakor Highlife
for your weekend. Funny thing is that the ‘A’ and the
‘O’ are swithed in the title.

Vandaag hebben we een zeldzame plaat met Aibor Bello and
his Aloagbaye. De twee albums die tot nu toe zagen staan in
de discografie van Discogs, deze niet. Hij komt uit 1980 en
verscheen op DES Records. Een mooi stuk Etsakor highlife
voor je weekend. Vreemd dat de ‘A’ en de ‘O’ zijn
omgekeerd in de titel. Luister en huiver ..

Looking at Vincent Ugabi’s discography on Discogs we find only
a few records. Discogs clearly has some catching up to do. We
were lucky enough to find some earlier and recently we found
this here elpee. I could not discover a year of release but okay,
listening to it makes up for that hiatus. Get it and spread it ..
