- Friday June 5, 20092 comments on Los Virtuosos – El Brujo, Kubaney 1976
From the Dominican Republic, these are Los Virtuosos with
Cuco Valoy. The name El Brujo would stay with him after this LP.
Inside the cover we find a little booklet with some magical
recipes. They are in Spanish and if you want, they’re included.
A great piece of salsa and merengue, beware of El Brujo !tracks;

In August of 2008 I posted an album by Orchesta Revé, this one
is by the same artist but under his own name. Find the other
here . Elio Revé created a sound totally unique.
Born out of ‘Son’, his ‘Changüi’ with it’s almost funky warm bass
and hypnotic rhythms is the most famous. I found some more information
on this_page.tracks;
1 Negra con pelo
2 Señores silencio
3 Tu eres mi ilusión
4 Mi ritmo changüi
5 A mí
6 Oyan coro
7 Matingó

When I was running through the records in that Paris
recordstore, I found this jewel by Raphy Leavitt. Listening
to it, another customer wanted it too. Shame, but hey, I gave
him this URL and promised to post it this week. So here it is.
It’s got that great salsa brava sound of the early seventies.
An LP that makes the hair stand up on your arms.In the meantime our new year at the Global Groove is starting.
I would love to give you all a big piece of birthday cake, but
instead we’ll go into the new year posting music as we use to.
You can expect some special selected treats, waiting for you
on the postingpile, stay tuned..tracks;

After the 1959 revolution on Cuba, Celia Cruz left the island together
with the legendary ‘la Sonora Matancera’. In New York she played with all
the great latin artists you can imagine. After singing with the Orchestra
of Tito Puente she met Johnny Pacheco and his Fania crew. Together they
had tremendous succes. This LP contains the great ‘Quimbara’, a huge hit|
from those days. And weren’t they hip ?tracks;

Times they are changing, nowadays you’d never see an artist
on the cover of his or her CD with a burning cigarette in
their hands. In 1977 this was the most normal thing, and why not ?
Smoking didn’t effect Roberto Torres’ voice, and if it did, it made it
more attractive to my opinion. Later on Torres was known for his
charanga vallenato but on this album he spoils us with some sweet
salsa. Listen to Roberto Torres y sus Caminantes.tracks;
1 Rapsodia en el solar
2 Que me den de tu salsa
3 No me avergüenzo
4 Los caminantes
5 Y yo lo se
6 Chachareo
7 Dejame en la esquina
8 Cuando tu me quieras

Puerto Rican singer Ismael Rivera used to work with Latin
percussionist Rafael Cortijo for many years. On this solo
project, Rafael joins him again as an invited guest.
Rivera had a great voice, they called him ‘el Sonero Mayor’.
Beautiful 70’s piece of latin, a must have.tracks;

I had a request for a Salsa Compilation and it just so happens

I hope it answers to your expectations.tracks;

I think I’ve got to make up a bit with all Latinlovers in our
community. It’s been a while since we had some nice salsa.
In 1972, Johnny Pacheco and Pete ‘El Conde’ Rodriguez were
at the peak of their career. There are no other musicians
credited here, a shame because they really deserve to be.
Very fine album by the man without whom Fania wouldn’t have
been the same, Johnny Pacheco is the Man.tracks;
1 Dulce con dulce
2 Mujer ingrata
3 Moreno
4 Baldemira
5 Recordando a Carmelina
6 Soy el mejor

9 Agarrate de la brocha
