    Roberto Torres, front

Times they are changing, nowadays you’d never see an artist
on the cover of his or her CD with a burning cigarette in
their hands. In 1977 this was the most normal thing, and why not ?
Smoking didn’t effect Roberto Torres’ voice, and if it did, it made it
more attractive to my opinion. Later on Torres was known for his
charanga vallenato but on this album he spoils us with some sweet
salsa. Listen to Roberto Torres y sus Caminantes.

    tracks;

    1 Rapsodia en el solar
2 Que me den de tu salsa
    3 No me avergüenzo
    4 Los caminantes
    5 Y yo lo se
    6 Chachareo
    7 Dejame en la esquina
    8 Cuando tu me quieras
9 Por las cosas de la vida

    Ismael Rivera, front

Puerto Rican singer Ismael Rivera used to work with Latin
percussionist Rafael Cortijo for many years. On this solo
project, Rafael joins him again as an invited guest.
Rivera had a great voice, they called him ‘el Sonero Mayor’.
Beautiful 70’s piece of latin, a must have.

    tracks;

    1 Soy feliz
    2 Son son sonero
    3 Tonto del amor
4 Yo no quiero que te enamores
    5 Las tumbas
    6 No soy para ti
    7 Parece que le gusta
    8 Boriqueneando
    9 Si yo pudiera
    10 Los apuros de Miguel

I think I’ve got to make up a bit with all Latinlovers in our
community. It’s been a while since we had some nice salsa.
In 1972, Johnny Pacheco and Pete ‘El Conde’ Rodriguez were
at the peak of their career. There are no other musicians
credited here, a shame because they really deserve to be.
Very fine album by the man without whom Fania wouldn’t have
been the same, Johnny Pacheco is the Man.

    tracks;

    1 Dulce con dulce
    2 Mujer ingrata
    3 Moreno
    4 Baldemira
    5 Recordando a Carmelina
    6 Soy el mejor
    7 Yolanda
    8 Solito

Hey Groovers, have you heard this one ?
Incredibly good album by Larry Harlow’s Orchestra, Larry

    Orquesta Revé, front, cd size

    Elio Revé

Elio Revé Matos, (right side)( picture; ‘the Rough Guide’ on World Music )
Forget about this cover and check the music !

One of Cuban’s styles born out of ‘Son’ is ‘Changüí’.
It’s main performer is without doubt the late ‘Elio Revé Matos’,
He died in a car accident in 1997, a great loss to Cuban music.
The LP I ripped for you, by Orquesta Revé, is a fine example of
his fantastic sound. It’s cover is awful but it’s music is great.
I’ve added the cover they used for the later issued cd.

    tracks;

    1 Ruñidera
    2 Rumberos Latino-Americanos
3 Se que tu sabes que yo se
    4 Changüí campanero
    5 La boda en bicicleta
6 Que lastima me da contigo mi amor
    7 Tan linda
    8 21 de Mayo

    Puerto Candelaria, front

Last wednesday I had a tremendous night, my friend Kai invited me
to see Puerto Candelaria at the Bimhuis in Amsterdam.
It was a surprising gig, very original and entertaining.
I had a great time seeing their guest of the night, Edmar Castaneda,
a harpplayer from Colombia too, whom they had never met before.
It was a spontaneous meeting, that worked out very nice, Edmar
plays that electric harp like no other, what a skillfulness.
After playing their concert, the group joined the crowd in the bar.
My friends brother dj Jairzinho, was playing some nice cumbia’s.
I had the opportunity to meet the band’s members and we had a nice
conversation about Colombian music, Medellin, where they’re from etc.
Thanks so much Juan Diego, for inviting me to visit you in Medellin.
If I’m lucky and find the time, I’ll be there later this year.
It was great talking to you and Juan Guillermo Aguilar, you can
    expect my call.

    Check the Website of Puerto_Candelaria

That same evening, during the break of the concert, I met some
other very interesting people, Doctor Salsa ( Ira Goldwasser ) and
his lovely wife Harriett Broekman, who used to be dancers at the
New York Palladium in the 50’s.
I had a very nice chat with mrs. Salsa about the Ansonia label and
Latin music in general. Amazing to hear how she tells about all the
famous artists, of who she knows so many. Thank you Harriett for
the fantastic tips you gave me, and for the DVD and CD that you sent
    me the day after.
I hope to meet you soon again.

    About the music;

The first 2 songs are from ‘Puerto Candelaria’s’ CD, ‘Llegó la Banda’.
I didn’t give you the whole CD because it is available in the
    musicstore, go buy you one.
track No. 3 is by ‘Doctor Salsa’ as you can see.
track 4 and 5 are two tracks from the new group of two members of
Puerto Candelaria, Juan Diego Valencia and Juan Guillermo Aguilar.
Another thank you goes out to Johan Leestemaker, Who spent a
great part of his life in Medellin, thanks Johan for being of
    big help.

Long story, Great evening, Super Networking, thank you all so much.
