- Saturday July 12, 20083 comments on Orchestra Harlow – Harlow’s Harem, Fania 1972
When I visited one of my favourite recordstores in old Amsterdam
last week, I found me this Fania Lp. Larry Harlow was one of the loyal
members of the Fania crew, and wrote a lot of fine songs.
Vocals by Ismael Miranda, Felo Brito, Vicky and Larry Harlow himself.
Produced by Jerry Masucci under supervision of Johnny Pacheco.tracks;

I always had a certain weakness for the unique sound of Monguito’s
voice. When I was ripping This LP it made me remember some of
the old days, what a fine days they were. The great cover artwork is
by ‘José Exposito’. Listen to this Fantastic album! That’s an order.tracks;

One of Colombia’s finest Salsagroups is without any doubt ‘the Latin
Brothers’, being part of the ‘Discos Fuentes’ family they enjoy all the
benefits. As I found out before, this is a close group of musicians.
‘Julio Ernesto Estrada’ or ‘Fruko’, is in charge of the ‘Dirección
General’, and that shows. This recording was made with 8
different singers, and they all know what they’re doing.
Check the listing below.tracks;
1 Tremendo cachetero
2 A pesar
3 Juanita y su camarita
4 Curiche
5 Que voy a hacer

I found this ‘Pacheco’ at the last recordfair in Utrecht, april this year.
It is a Fania production from Probably 1972. Released in Venezuela
by ‘el Palacio de la Música’. The only information available is as
follows; singers are ‘Pete ‘Conde’ Rodriguez’, ‘Pacheco’ and ‘Alberto
Valdez’. Directed by ‘Johnny Pacheco’ and
produced by ‘Jerry Masucci’.tracks;
1 Soy hijo del Siboney
2 Me voy contigo

This here LP is a real treasure, I played it over and over, and over
again. From ’73 this Johnny Pacheco with singer Pete ‘El Conde’
Rodriguez, a Fania beauty. It’s a shame that no musicians are credited
here, ‘Tres de Cafe, Dos de Azucar, Ponle Punto’. Produced by
‘Jerry Masucci’ and ‘Johnny Pacheco’. Fantastic background
vocals, great rhythms, ” Azucar !”tracks;
1 Primoroso cantar
2 Cositas buenas
3 Ponle punto

5 Los diablitos
6 El piro de farra
7 Son labori

Something funny is going on here, the A-side of this LP has 4 numbers
according to the backcover, but the LP has 5 tracks on each side.
When we look at the arrangerscredits we see that we miss track 2.
If I listen closely I can not make out excactly, so for the record
I named that second track; ‘El hulk de la salsa’, after the albumtitle.
I hope you aprove there. By the way, don’t you just love that cover ?
This is an old time personal favorite, especially #’s 9 and 10 I used
to play a lot on party’s. Johnny Zamot beats
his rhythms tight, check it out !01 – La musica es mi vida
02 – ‘El hulk de la Salsa’
03 – +Ay corazon
04 – La salsa ahora
05 – Entre amistad
06 – La humanidad
07 – +Amor tragico
08 – Olvidame
09 – Yo soy boricua
10 – TraidoresPosted by Moosat 7:18 AM - Monday June 2, 2008
This one is an old personal favorite, I think I bought it around 1980
and played it very much those days.
Willie Colon comes in with a true beauty, the voice of ‘Hector Lavoe’,
Produced by ‘Jerry Masucci’ and recording director, ‘Johnny Pacheco’.
” Azucar !”tracks;
1 Che Che Colé
2 No me llores más
3 Ausencia
4 Te conozco
5 Juana Peña
6 Sonero mayor
7 Sangrigorda
8 Tu no puedes conmigoPosted by Moosat 8:23 PM - Saturday May 31, 2008
Another great Johnny Pacheco LP, from 1973 on Fania.
This copy has been played almost too often, unfortunately it has
a little hiss and track # 7 starts with a crack and a jump, but still
I didn’t want to withhold this beautiful album from you. ’10 Great
Years’, from ’63 to ’73, Johnny Pacheco comes in with a nice
selection of hits from between those years. Singers are, like on
many of Pacheco’s albums, ‘Pete ‘El Conde’ Rodriguez’, and
Chivirico Davila. I quote the backcover;
” For the past 10 years, Johnny Pacheco has been one of the biggest
influences in Latin Music.
A favorite with both the Latino and the
American dancing public since his rise to national fame with the
Pachanga, Johnny keeps you moving and swinging with his
‘tipico’ rhythms. In this collectors album, you will be able
to sample some of the hit tunes which have delighted
people over the past 10 years.”tracks;
1 La esencia del Guaguanco
2 Pinareño
3 Dulce con dulce
4 Convergencia
5 Soy hijo del Siboney
6 Azucar mami
7 Sonero
8 Sarandonga
9 El pescador
10 Guararey na’ma
11 El champolon ( bacalao )
12 Alto songoPosted by Moosat 12:36 PM - Tuesday May 27, 2008
Until now we saw two great latinlabels at Global Groove.
the Colombian label, “discos Fuentes’ and New York label ‘SAR’.
It’s about time to post some latin of the great ‘Fania’, a New
York label that started early 70’s, correct me if I’m wrong.
One of Fania’s biggest stars through the years is without any
doubt, ‘Johnny Pacheco’. I quote the backcover of this LP;
Sound, rhythm, and change…..three words that seem to go
well with Johnny Pacheco. The sound was Charanga, the
rhythm was Pachanga,and the change was welcomed by
dancers around the world; but this is a restless world of
innovations, and the most restless of all is JOHNNY !
Change the sound, change the rhythm, charge the air with
musical energy……the flute become drums, the violins
become trumpets, blend in voices, and the metamorphosis
is complete. Fania Records is proud to launch this new
sound which is being presented to you,
the listener, by Johnny Pacheco.tracks;
1 Cañonazo
2 Como mango
3 Pinareño
4 Cabio sile
5 Campeon
6 El kikiriki
7 Labrando la tierra
8 Fania
