Eerlijk gezegd dacht ik dat ik deze al eens pepost had maar
kennelijk heb ik me daarin vergist. Toen ik Rik’s verhaal gisteren
las ben ik de platenkast in gedoken en vond er nog enkele die
jullie nog niet bereikt hadden. Thomas Mapfumo en zijn Blacks
unlimited hebben er nog al een paar geproduceerd dus er een
missen was niet heel moeilijk. Deze is dus voor jou Rik maar
de rest van de wereld mag hem ook beluisteren hoor. Voor
de liefhebbers wacht er nog wel eentje dus laat maar horen.
It’s been a while and to be honest I thought it had been posted
already somewhere in the past. It seems it hadn’t however so
here it is today. Thomas Mapfumo and his Blacks Unlimited
made quite a few records so it wasn’t difficult to miss one.
When I read Rik’s story yesterday I went for a quick search
in the record cupboard and found a few left forgotten.
This one is for you Rik, any one else can down it as well
of course. For lovers of the genre there should be
another so just let me know okay..

Je kunt mij beter nooit te serieus nemen hoor. Ik loop hier ook
maar een beetje te dollen met wie er maar gevoelig voor is. Ik
meen het wel als ik zeg verbreed je horizon en luister ook eens
naar muziek waarvan je eerst denkt, dat is niks voor mij. Neem
nou deze Felix Morales en zijn Orchestra Capri, een club muzi-
kanten waarvan ik zeg, die snappen het. Alles in balans, niets te
veel of te weinig. Met Ismael Quintana, Adalberto Santiago, Vitin
Aviles en Pete ‘Conde’ Rodriguez slechts in het achtergrond koortje.
Dukie Gonzalez doet de lead vocalen, Charlie Rodriguez op de tres,
ik noem er zomaar een paar. schitterende arrangementen, niet te
missen dit spul. En pietsie achtergrond geluiden maar net
niet te veel gelukkig, pak het en geniet ervan zoals ik..
Better don’t take me too serious folks, I’m just fooling around with
whoever wants to be fooled around with. I do mean it when I say
broaden your horizon, without wanting to hurt anybody’s feeling.
Take this album of Felix Morales and his Orchestra Capri, a bunch
of musicians who knew what they were doing. Everything is in
perfect balance, nothing too much or too little. Ismael Quintana,
Adalberto Santiago, Vitin Aviles en Pete ‘Conde’ Rodriguez just
being background vocals. Dukie Gonzalez taking care of the lead
vocals, Charlie Rodrigues on tres, just naming a few. astonishing
arrangements, don’t miss. Shame about a little background noise
on this fine record, but not too much, enjoy listening..

De plaat van vandaag is voor mensen als Pim en Glinka
maar vooral voor Rik. De eerste omdat hij expliciet heeft
gevraagd om een wijf in bikini op de voorkant. De tweede
omdat deze nodig eens zijn horizon zou moeten verbreden
en de derde omdat hij een liefhebber is van variatie en naar
allerlei soorten muziek luistert met veel plezier, net als ikzelf.
Lucho Campillo en Policarpo Calle hebben niet alleen de meest
prachtige namen, hun groep ‘el Conde y su Corte’ komt voor de
dag met dit heerlijke stukje Colombiaanse Porro en dergelijke.
Alles klopt aan deze plaat, lekkere sound, lekkere stemmen,
en ook nog een lekkere meid op de hoes, typisch global
groove topmateriaal dus, kortom luister maar snel..
Today’s record is specially for people like Pim and Glinka
but mostly for Rik. The first because he asked explicitly for one
with a girl in bikini at the frontsleeve. The second because it
is hightime to broaden his horizon and the third because he is
a lover of variety and listens to all kinds of music with pleasure
just like I do. Lucho Campillo and Policarpo Calle don’t just have
beautiful names, their group ‘el Conde y su Corte’ appears here
today with this delightful piece of Colombian porro and such.
Everything about this record is right, great sound, great voices
and a pretty girl on the frontsleeve to complete the picture.
Typical global groove topmaterial in short, get it and
listen quickly, you won’t regret..

Om te beginnen, het spijt me zo voor degenen die slechts één
soort muziek kunnen waarderen. Variatie is alles in het leven
en verandering is wat ons op gang houdt, het is onvermijdelijk.
To start with, I’m so sorry for those who fancy one kind of music
only, for variety is the spice of life and change is everything
to keep us alive. It is inevitable.
Ik heb deze band altijd zeer serieus genomen, zoveel geweldige
artiesten speelden erin. Lisandro meza, Calixto Ochoa, Tony Zuñiga,
Eliseo Herrera, César Castro om er maar een paar te noemen. En dan
komt er zo’n nummer langs met Donald Duck stemmetjes, da’s even
schakelen maar toch, tja, de rest is gewoon weer fantastisch. Het blijft
een wereldband dus zullen we ze die grap maar vergeven. Luister zelf
maar, los Corraleros de majagual kunnen toch niet stuk..
I always took this band very serious, so many great artists played in it.
Lisandro meza, Calixto Ochoa, Tony Zuñiga, Eliseo Herrera, César Castro,
just to name a few. And then they appear with such a strange song with
Donald Duck voices in it. That was a moment of doubt, but then, what to
say, the rest of the album is just as fantastic as before so I guess we’ll
excuse them for making a joke. They remain a group of world class.

Toch nog maar een Arikaanse post dan ? Dit zijn zeven
45 toeren plaatjes zoals reeds eerder verschenen op
deze pagina. Oost Afrika is nu weer even aan de beurt.
Benga is zulk aanstekelijk spul, ik kon er niet omheen.
Dus schop dat meubilair nog eens opzij en laat je gaan.
East Africa gets its turn today, benga is such contageous
music, there was no way around it. Seven 45’s in a row
as we did before at this page works perfect and make a
solid listen. So kick aside your funiture once again and
let yourself go..enjoy..

Goeiemorgen groevers, voor dat we doorschakelen naar andere
stromingen nog eentje dan. Dit is nummer 161 in de african serie.
Je ziet het al, liedjes uit 1963 van Nico, Rochereau, Dechaud en
Mizele. Ik weet niet zo goed wat ik er verder over moet zeggen
behalve dat ik zeker weet dat je ze niet zou willen missen.
Ga maar snel luisteren dus en geef ze weer door ja..
Goodmorning groovers, before moving on to the next genre
one more in the african series we like so much. It is no. 161
and gives us songs from 1963 by Nico, Rochereau, Dechaud
and Mizele as you can see. I’m not so sure what to say more
but being certain you would not want to miss them.
So go listen quickly and pass them on again okay..

De wens om op een mooie dag de ‘african 360.00 serie’ te
completeren leeft nog steeds voort hier op de Global Groove.
Net als gisteren hebben we er vandaag weer eentje die al een
tijd wachtte gelanceerd te worden. Het is nummer 125 in de serie
met twaalf liedjes van Franco’s OK Jazz uit de jaren 1959 tot en met
1962. Van zijn hand hebben we nog nooit een slecht nummer
gehoord. Met deze plaat komen weer een heel klein stapje dichterbij
het volbrengen van de wens. Van Franco valt nog veel te vinden en
ook van de african serie maar elke stap is er weer een. Geniet van
muzikanten als Mujos, Kwamy, Simarro, Piccolo, Isaac en Albino
om er maar een paar te noemen, plezier dus..
Here at the Global Groove the wish to complete the ‘african
360.000 series’ one fine day still exists. Another one waiting
to get posted is this no. 125 with songs of Franco’s OK Jazz
from the period between 1959 and 1962. We never heard
a bad song from the hand of ‘le grand mâitre’. With this lp
we are yet a little closer to the completion of both the series
and the works of the master. It’s a small step but like yester-
day’s it is a nice one. Enjoy listening to the voices of Mujos
Kwamy and Franco, the rhythm of Lutumba Simarro, the
bass of Piccolo and the saxophones of Isaac and
Albino just to name a few.

Er wachten nog steeds meerdere plaatjes in de ‘african’ 360.000
serie. Dit is er een van. Ik weet niet wat Docteur Nico zocht in
die tijd, rumbaatjes in Lingala, cha-cha’s in gebroken Spaans en
zelfs Engelstalige jerks allemaal dwars door elkaar maar wel heel
vermakelijk . In feite kan de man niet stuk, wat hij ook deed, de
kwaliteit loopt ervan af. Dus twijfel nu niet en haal snel binnen.

There are still several discs in the ‘african’ 360.00 series waiting
to get posted. This is another of them. I’m not sure what Docteur
Nico was searching for in those days, rumba’s in Lingala, Cha-cha’s
in broken Spanish and even English jerks, all mixed on this nice album.
What ever the good doctor did, it was all good. So do not hesitate and
get this record as we speak, Nicolas Kasanda and orchestre
African Fiesta in top condition..

Uncle Toye Ajagun and his Olumo Soundmakers

Het mooie van muziek uit Africa is dat er telkens weer artiesten
opduiken die je nog nooit eerder gezien of gehoord hebt. Dit is
er weer zo een. Uncle Toye Ajagun doet in juju en komt uit de
Joruba hoek. Ooit begonnen in 1962, bracht twee platen uit tot
1975 en brak uiteindelijk met zijn derde ‘Magbe Magbe’ door
tot het grote publiek. Deze plaat uit 1978 verkeert
na 38 jaar nog in uitstekende staat, een gelukkie.

One of the nicer aspects in collecting African music is the fact
one keeps walking into artists we never seen or heard before.
This record brings us such an artist. Uncle Toye Ajagun does
juju and is from the Joruba corner. Started out in 1962 he made
two albums untill 1975 that did not score too well and finally
reached the big public with his third record called “Magbe Magbe’.
After 38 years this record from 1978 is in perfect condition
which is exceptional. Listen to Gbedu Beats..

De zangeres die ik je vandaag wil laten horen is er
een waar niet veel over te vinden valt op het web.
Misschien niet heel bekend maar wel heel fijn is haar
super relaxte samba. Rustig voortkabbelend op een
manier die ik zeer waardeer, warme trombone sound
tegen kalme niet pretentieuse melodieën. Lekker easy
en net iets voor de vrije middag thuis, genieten dus..
The singer I want to introduce to you today is one we
can’t seem to find a lot about on the web. Maybe quite
unknown but very nice is her mellow type of samba. It
babbles on very easy in a way I really appreciate. Warm
trombone and non pretentious melodies, just the thing

Ukwu is altijd welkom bij liefhebbers van deze stroming. Zijn
muziek maakte reeds velen gelukkig en een hoop andere
artiesten maakten een eerbetoon aan hem. Dus twijfel
niet en sleep deze snel naar binnen. Howewel wat krakerig
een plaat om erbij te hebben. Pak ‘m en luister zelf..

Het is al weer bijna zover, carnaval in ons land bestaat
eigenlijk slechts onder de grote rivieren zogezegd. Hét
land van de carnaval is natuurlijk Brazilië. In de provincie
Pará was Pinduca een van de groten met zijn Carimbó.
Luister naar deze soort van “‘Best Of’ ofwel zijn Seleção
de Ouro. Je moet ervan houden, vrolijke feestmuziek.

Toen ik jouw commentaar zag Scotty, wist ik onmiddelijk wat me te
doen stond. Naar de platenkast lopen en deze schijf op de draaitafel
leggen. Tja, de volgende stap is helder natuurlijk. Wat een lekkere
deuntjes heeft die man toch gemaakt. Ik schoot direkt terug in de tijd,
vooral bij het horen van nummer 15, dat maakte weer heel wat mooie
mooie herrinneringen bij me los. Vroeger in jongerencentrum de Tagrijn
heb ik ‘m voor het eerst gehoord en ik zie de tent dan ook gelijk voor me.
“..leave the studio man, I don’t want you inside here,
you can’t play bass, you can’t play drums, leave the studio man..”
When I read your comment Scotty, I knew immediately what to do.
Walk to the record cabinet and take this album to put it on the turntable.
The next step is clear off course. What fine tunes this man made, I flashed
back to some memories at the spot. Especially song # 15 of the record
sent me back to memory lane. In the old days when I used to frequent
youthcenter the Tagrijn where I first laid my ears on it, saw it before
me straight away. “..leave the studio man, I don’t want you inside here,
you can’t play drums, you can’t play bass, leave the studio man..” haha..
