Goedemorgen groevers, wat hebben we vandaag ? Een tamelijk
zeldzame plaat met Kadima en Les As de Brazzaville. Veel is er over
deze artiest niet te vinden. We hebben slechts een klein stukje liner
notes op de achterkant van dit album. Het verscheen op het Franc-
Afrique label uit Kenya. Geen jaar van uitgifte bekend. Één ding weten
we wel zeker, dit is een verdomd goeie plaat. Van begin tot eind zeer
te genieten. De hoes is gehavend maar het vinyl is in top conditie.
Hier volgt een snelle vertaling van de liner notes ;
Kadima, 3 lettergrepen – naam gemakkelijk te onthouden dus melodieën
gemakkelijk te neuriën – uiteraard! Kadima, een carrièrediplomaat die zich
tijdens zijn daluren wijdt aan deze afleiding die de Congolezen zo dierbaar is,
presenteert je op zijn eerste album 4 pakkende titels waaraan hij ontelbare
uren werk heeft besteed. Je zult vooral in Congo ya Afica waarderen dat hij
zingt over liefde voor zijn land, voor Afrika en nostalgie te midden van
een pakkend ritme, allemaal op schema en zeer dansbaar.
Good morning groovers, what do we have for you today ? A quite rare
record with Kadima and Les As de Brazzaville. Not much info is available
about this artist. We just have the liner notes from the backsleeve of this
album. It appeared on the FrancAfrique label from Kenya. No year of release
known. One thing we do know though, this is a damn good album, very en-
joyable from beginning to end. Its sleeve is worn out but the vinyl is in very
good condition. Here’s a quick translation of the liner notes;
Kadima, 3 syllables – name easy to remember so tunes easy to hum – obviously!
Kadima, a career diplomat who, during his off-peak hours, devotes himself to
this distraction so dear to the Congolese people. The music, he presents to you
on his first album contains 4 catchy titles on which he spent countless hours of
work. You will especially appreciate in ‘Congo ya Afica’ where he sings about the
love for his fatherland, for Africa and nostalgia in the middle of a catchy rhythm.
All together, nicely organised and very danceable.

Ik heb me er altijd over verbaasd. Als je in de Braziliaanse
afdeling van platenzaken zoekt, vind je Bossa Nova, Tropi-
calia, allerlei funk gerelateerde muziek maar zelden samba.
Persoonlijk, maar dat wist je al, vind ik samba de fijnste Bra-
ziliaanse muziek, de muziek van het volk. Door de jaren heen
heb ik er al heel wat fijne plaatjes mee gepost. Kijk eens in
de samba sectie van de Global Groove en verlies jezelf.
Dit is de tweede elpee van Chico da Silva, hij klinkt een beetje
als de grote Martinho da Vila. Luister zelf ..
I always wondered why, if you search the Brazillian section
in most record stores you find Bossa Nova, Tropicalia, all kinds
of funk related music but seldom samba, the sound of the people.
Personally, but you already knew, I think samba is the nicest of
all Brazillian musical styles. Over the years I have posted lots
of samba albums. Take a look in our samba section and loose
yourself. This is Chico da Silva’s second album, he sounds a bit
like the great Martinho da Vila. Listen and make up your own mind ..

Het is enigszins verwarrend. Kennelijk een zeer populaire naam
in de West Indies jaren zeventig, ‘Les Vikings’. We vinden Les Vi-
kings d’Haïti, Les Vikings de Guadeloupe en Les Vikings de la Mar-
tinique. Ik kan niet ontdekken of er een link bestaat tussen de
verschillende bands. Wie het weet mag het zeggen. Voor nu
nog zo’n album met Les Vikings d’Haïti. Feuilles Magiques is
de opener, zou het ook hier over wiet gaan, wie weet ..
It is somewhat confusing. Apparently it was a very popular name
in the West Indies during the seventies, ‘Les Vikings’. We find Les
Vikings d’Haïti, Les Vikings de Guadeloupe and Les Vikings de la
Martinique. I can’t seem to find out if they are somehow con-
nected. If you know, please enlighten us. For now we have an-
other album with les Vikings d’Haïti. It opens with Feuilles
Magiques, maybe reference to marihuana once again, who
knows .. the music get us high in any case ..

In de categorie favoriete pop platen uit de oude doos brengen
we vandaag deze met Jerry Riopelle uit 1974. Het hele album
is zeer te genieten maar vooral track 3, ‘Naomi’s Song’ is een
lieveling die altijd veel gedraaid werd en wordt. Jerry schreef
en produceerde veel voor anderen. Dit is zijn derde solo plaat.
In the catagory favourite pop albums today we have this record
with Jerry Riopelle from 1974. The whole album is very enjoyable
but especially track #3, ‘Naomi’s Song’ is a darling which was and
is played a lot. Jerry wrote and produced much for other artists,
this is his third solo album.

For the lovers of Ghanaian highlife today another album with
Chief Sammy Kofi and his Okukuseku from 1981. The chief was
here on multiple occasions, see various links below. Always a
treat to listen to Sammy Kofi, it seems he got his inspiration
from a good smoke of reefer if I understand the hint on the
backsleeve well. The leaves on the front look a little bit like
the ones I refer to and is that a rolling gesture he’s making ?
Voor de liefhebbers van Ghanese highlife vandaag nog zo’n
fijne plaat met Chief Sammy Kofi en zijn Okukuseku uit 1981.
De chief was hier reeds met meerdere albums, zie de diverse
links hieronder. Altijd weer een genot naar Sammy Kofi te lui-
steren, het lijkt erop dat hij zijn inspiratie haalde uit een goeie
splif als ik de hint op de backsleeve goed begrijp. De blaadjes
op de voorkant lijken ook al op degene die ik bedoel en is dat
een gebaar van er eentje te rollen wat hij daar maakt ?

In navolging van Worldservice, op 12 oktober j.l. was het 30 jaar
terug dat Franco overleed. Zoveel mooie platen, zoveel verhalen,
de bron is onuitputtelijk. We hadden al veel van zijn platen maar
deze dubbelaar op Edipop uit 1982 heb ik nog niet hier of bij de
diverse collega’s gezien. Ik kan je niet zoveel vertellen als Stefan,
ik heb alleen de muziek voor je. POP 021 verkeert in goede staat,
POP 022 ziet er schoon uit maar ruist helaas. Geniet eens te
meer van het werk van le Grand Maître ..
Following the post on Worldservice, on october 12th it was 30 yrs.
ago that Franco died. So many wonderful records, so many stories,
the well is inexhaustible. We had us quite some of his records al-
ready but this dubble album on Edipop from 1982 I haven’t seen
here or at the blogs of our colleagues until now. I can’t tell you
as much as Stefan can, I just have the music for you.POP 021 is
in fine condition, POP 022 looks clean but has some hiss
unfortunately. Enjoy the works of

Het is alweer bijna zover, over een paar weken vindt de 52ste Mega
Platen & Cd beurs weer plaats in de Utrechtse jaarbeurs. De laatste
paar jaar tref ik daar telkens een platendealer met Zambiaanse lp’s.
De muziek intrigeert me maar de beste man verkoopt zijn Zambia
albums allemaal voor 300, 400 en 500 euro of meer. Ik heb er nog
niet één bij hem gekocht en ga dat ook niet doen voor die prijzen.
Nu was ik eens aan het struinen op Youtube en heb daarvandaan
deze numers van Peter Kalumba Chishala opgenomen. Scheelt
een klein vermogen met de originals. Heerlijke Zambia sound ..
It is already almost time again, in a couple of weeks we’ll have us
the 52nd Mega Record & Cd fair in the Utrecht jaarbeurs. The past
few years I always find a record dealer there who has a bunch of
Zambian records. The music intrigues but the fine man sells his
Zambia albums for 300, 400 or 500 euro’s or more. I haven’t
bought one with him and I’m also not going to for those prices.
Now yesterday I was searching for old Zambian music on Youtube
and recorded these track with Peter Kalumba Chishala. The
difference, a small fortune .. Nice Zambia sound ..

Als je eenmaal in de Waziri flow zit kom je er niet makkelijk uit.
Vierde op rij is deze 84′ Step One op Oshiobyghie Records. Lekkere
diepe highlife plaat. Het is er eentje waarop de titels Alhaji en Sir
samen worden gebruikt. Liner notes eindigen dan ook in een dubbel
“May the almighty Allah guide and bless us all, Amen.” geef mij
de muziek maar en in mindere mate de boodschap ..
Once you’re in the Waziri flow, there’s no easy way out. Fourth
in row we have this 84′ Step One on Oshiobyghie Records. Nice
deep highlife album. It is one on which both titles Alhaji and Sir
are being used. Liner notes end in a double “May the almighty
Allah guide and bless us all, Amen.” For me it is all about the
music and not so much the message ..
