El Carretero. It was so impressive I started looking for more.

Net als de plaat van gisteren is ook deze niet vrij van kleine
beschadigingen. Dit soort Nigeriaanse oudheden is nauwelijks
in perfecte staat te vinden. We mogen al blij zijn ze überhaupt
tegen het lijf te lopen. Wat hebben we hier, het is het tweede
volume in de Weppa Wanno Sound serie. Er zijn er zeker zeven.
We blijven zoeken naar meer delen in de serie, wie weet wat
de beurs in Utrecht volgende maand zal brengen ..
Like yesterday’s album, its follower up of today is also not free
from little traces of damage. This type of Nigerian oldies is hardly
available in perfect condition. We may consider ourselves already
lucky finding them at all. What do we have here, it is the second
volume in the Weppa Wanno Sound series of which at least seven
exist. We’ll keep looking for more volumes, who knows what
the next record fair in Utrecht will bring us ..

In the afenmai section we find another record with
the Weppa Wanno Sound from Etsakor. It has a little
disturbance after about a minute and is quite scratchy
overall but I still didn’t want to withhold it from you.

We see two different images, can you tell us who we see ?
In de afenmai sectie vinden we vandaag nog zo’n plaat
met de Weppa Wanno Sound uit Etsakor. Na ongeveer
een minuut heeft hij enkele nare pops en is over het alge-
meen een beetje krakerig. Evengoed wilde ik hem je niet
onthouden. Diepe Nigeriaanse highlife. We vinden helaas
geen artiesten naam op de hoes, wel twee foto’s,
wie het weet mag het zeggen ..

We know him as Lucho Bermúdez, his full name was Luis Eduardo
Bermúdez Acosta. He was a Colombian musician, composer, arranger,
director and performer. Lucho Bermúdez was perhaps the the main
person responsible for having made cumbia and porro become stan-
dards of Colombian music internationally since the 1940’s. Matilde
Diaz sang in most of his compositions and was Lucho’s second wife.
This album contains some of his biggest successes, I added a couple
of others as bonus tracks, enjoy listening ..
We kennen hem als Lucho Bermúdez, zijn volledige naam was Luis
Eduardo Bermúdez Acosta. Hij was een Colombiaanse muzikant,
componist, arranger, dirigent en performer. Lucho Bermúdez was
waarschijnlijk de man die er verantwoordelijk voor was dat cumbia
en porro verwerden tot de meest representatieve sound uit Colom-
bia in de jaren 40. Matilde Diaz zong op zijn beroemdste composities
en was zijn tweede vrouw. Deze plaat bevat een aantal van zijn groot-
ste successen, ik heb er nog een paar als bonus tracks aan toe gevoegd.

Op het Colombiaanse ‘De Oro’ label vinden we deze plaat met Antolin
y su Combo. La Tabaquera, de titelsong, is waaraan zangeres Lucy
Gonzalez haar bijnaam onttrok. Omdat Lucy blind was werd ze
ookwel ‘La Cieguita’ genoemd. Haar geweldige stem maakt deze
elpee ook weer tot een van mijn lievelings albums. We treffen
cumbia, paseo, paseaíto, fandango, porro paseo, merengue
en cumbión aan op deze heerlijke plaat ..
On the Colombian ‘De oro’ label we find this record with Antolin y su
Combo. La Tabaquera, its title song, is from where singer Lucy Gonza-
lez got her nick name. Being blind, Lucy was also called ‘La Cieguita’.
Her wonderful voice made this album again to become one of my
favourites. We find cumbia, paseo, paseaíto, fandango, porro paseo,
merengue and cumbión on this delightful album ..

it is always a joy listening. Here is another, John Fausty did the
enginering and José Exposito the art work. From 1981, on SAR,
Guajiro Records Inc. Son Montuno and such, decent material .

Als je zo’n plaat vindt met Roberto Torres, als zanger of producer,
altijd en gegarandeerd luisterplezier. Hier is er nog zo eentje, John
Fausty doet het geluid en José Exposito het art work. Uit 1981, op
