Onlangs vond je hier voor het eerst in 11 jaar gambus uit Indonesië.
Normaal gesproken ga je hiervoor natuurlijk naar Madrotter Treasure
Hunt van onze vriend Henk. Van Al Wathan Medan die we vandaag
hebben heeft hij er ook verschillende. Gambus heeft wel wat raakvlak
met Taarab uit Tanzania al komt dit natuurlijk uit een heel andere buurt.
Beide stromingen hebben een Arabische feel en oorsprong ..
Recently you found Indonesian gambus here for the first time in 11 years.
Normally of course one would go to Madrotter Treasure Hunt to find this
music. Our friend Henk also has various albums with the group we’ve got
today, Al Wathan Medan. Gambus somehow relates to Taarab music from
Tanzania eventhough it is from a total different region. Both styles have an

It’s been almost a year since we had this record by The Harmony
Kings with General Franco Lee Ezute, our friend Nick added a nice
video afterwards. About a week ago fellow blogger Jillem of Holland
Tunnel Dive also had a good release. Today another one of their
records. This one is from 1990 and contains four songs. General
Franco lee is considered one of the greatest Igbo Highlife artists.
No deep digging reviews here but deep rhythms, get & spread ..
Het is bijna een jaar geleden dat we deze plaat hadden met de
Harmony Kings met General Franco Lee Ezute, onze blogvriend
Nick voegde er achteraf nog een mooie video aan toe. Ongeveer
een week geleden had collega blogger Jillem van Holland Tunnel
Dive ook een goede plaat van ze. Vandaag nog zo’n schijf vinyl.
Deze is uit 1990 en bevat vier songs. General Franco Lee wordt
beschouwd als een van de grotere Igbo Hihlife artiesten. Geen
diepgravende achtergrond info hier maar wel diepe sounds ..

Het is niet de eerste keer dat het gebeurt, ik rip een plaat en kijk
dan altijd even of ik hem niet per ongeluk al eens eerder heb op-
genomen. M’n geheugen laat me wel eens in de steek. Bij deze
met Docteur Nico wist ik het zeker. Het was een album op Sonafric,
SAF 50007. Zelfde nummers, a- en b-zijde verwisseld maar verder
gelijke oorsprong. 100% zeker dat ik die in het verleden gepost heb
en nu is hij er niet meer. Toen we nog bij Blogspot zaten gebeurde
dat wel vaker. Ze gooiden er platen vanaf zonder je in te lichten.
Goed, hoe dan ook, vandaag is hij hier terug om te blijven. Ik heb
de link naar de Sonafric plaat er ook bij gezet, kun je vergelijken.
Dit is het origineel op Ngoma, veel luisterplezier weer ..
It is not the first time this happens, I’m ripping a record and always
check if I haven’t accidently ripped it before. My memory fails every
now and then so .. With this album by Docteur Nico I was quite sure.
It was a record on the Sonafric label, SAF 50007. Same songs, a- and
b-side switched around but absolutely the same origin. 100% sure I
have posted it before but somehow it disappeared. When we still
were with Blogspot this happened more often. They just threw off
an album without telling you anything. Well okay, one way or the
other, today it is here to stay. I have also added the Sonafric rip
so you can compare them. This is the original on Ngoma.

van die fijne plaatjes met Alex Kwabena Konadu. Dit is alweer de

Shameless Piracy
Last week one of our loyal visitors pointed me to see that Amazon is
making available loads of records taken from my beloved Global Groove.
Not only complete albums but also my Global Samplers as well as other
of my compilations. A firm called Kipepeo just downloads the files from
my website and sells them using the Amazon web shop. It is astonishing
to see how they even use my artwork without taking the trouble designing
something new. In some cases they also make new artwork for my compi-
lations and make new compilations with my rips. Also amazing to see,
albums with worn out and damaged covers are being sold without
repairing or searching for the sleeves online for example. It is a
shameles exercise all together. I am not sure if Amazon is aware
of this piracy. One way or the other, I am not going to make a big
fuzz about it. The rights of the music don’t lay with me so what
can I do about it. It is painful though, people pay their good money
for music I made available without charge. The whole idea behind
the Global Groove is sharing my collection with the world. I buy
the records, travell to find them and invest time and money,
it was meant to preserve almost lost and forgotten music.
Nothing else. I hope this message reaches many and
prevents people from spending money on stuff they
can just download for free ..
Vorige week kreeg ik bericht van een van onze trouwe bezoekers dat
Amazon een berg platen en compilaties van mijn geliefde Global Groove
te koop aanbiedt in hun webshop. Niet alleen complete albums maar zelfs
mijn compilaties zoals de Global Sampler serie en andere comps. Een firma
met de naam Kipepeo download mijn content en biedt deze te koop aan via
Amazon. Het is verbijsterend te zien hoe deze club zelfs mijn artwork over-
neemt zonder zelfs maar de moeite te nemen iets nieuws te ontwerpen.
In sommige gevallen worden er ook wel nieuwe hoesjes gemaakt en maken
ze ook nieuwe compilaties met mijn rips. Ook is het verbazingwekkend te zien
hoe platen met beschadigde of beschreven hoezen gewoon als zodanig worden
aan geboden zonder bijvoorbeeld online naar een nette afbeelding te zoeken.
Het is een schaamteloze vertoning alles tezamen. Ik weet niet of Amazon zich
bewust is van deze piraterij, hoe dan ook, ik ga er geen groot probleem van
maken, ten slotte zijn de rechten van deze muziek ook niet mijn eigendom.
Het is echter pijnlijk te zien hoe mensen dus hun zuurverdiende centjes
uitgeven aan muziek die ik kosteloos ter beschikking stel. Het hele idee
achter de Global Groove is het bewaren en delen van bijna verloren en
vegeten muziek. I reis naar verre oorden en investeer tijd en geld met
een nobel doel. Jammer. Ik hoop dat dit bericht velen zal bereiken
en dat het voorkomt dat men geld uitgeeft aan muziek die
hier nog steeds gratis is ..

Fanta Sacko – Musique du Mali

Het heeft gewoon zo moeten zijn denk ik, Gerrit van Lola Radio
bracht ons laatst twee prachtige platen van Fanta Damba, dank
daarvoor Gerrit. Hij sprak daarbij ook over Fanta Sacko, laat ik nou
net vorige week die elpee van haar hebben gevonden. Het betreft
een uitgave van het ‘Ministere de l’Information, Mali Music’ op het
Bärenreiter label. Het album schept enige verwarring vanwege het
feit dat er 8 nummers op staan en volgens hoes en label 10. De tijden
zoals die vermeld worden kloppen ook geen van allen. Aangezien ik
ook geen woord Malinees versta ben ik er maar van uit gegaan dat
de langste twee nummers samenvoegingen zijn van twee titels.
Als iemand het mysterie kan oplossen, heel graag ..
I guess it was just meant to be. Shortly, Gerrit of Lola Radio Blog,
brought us two great recordings by Fanta Damba, thanks for those
Gerrit. He also spoke about a record by Fanta Sacko. What a coinci-
dence, I just found that record last week. It concerns a release by
le ‘Ministere de l’Information, Mali Music’ on the Bärenreiter label.
The album causes some confusion because it contains 8 tracks while
label and sleeve speak of 10 songs. The times of the tracks also don’t
match with those at the backsleeve. Now I don’t understand a word
of Malinese so I just assume the longest two tracks are mergers of
two songs. If anyone can solve the mystery, please do ..
P.S.
After having some things cleared up in the comment section, I decided to
make the necessary adjustments to my file. Thank you Issa, Ngoni and Toto
for waking me up and explaining what must have happened here. I now under-
stand I have a quite unique misprint of the album. An error was probably-
made in the production proces and it just so happened I stumbled upon a
copy which should have been destroyed. It escaped from the factory and
ended up in my collection many years later. Thanks to Issa I was now able
to correct the titles. Everybody, ATTENTION; download it again with the
proper titles. Enjoy the sometimes longer versions and the one, previous
unreleased, track ( Mamadou Ndiaye ) The sound is perfect, listen
once more and realise, this is a unique mistake. ;-)
For those who didn’t follow earlier, the correct and final copy of this
album has ten instead of eight songs, in a different order and of other
length. Another difference is track four which does not appear on the
other record. (the final cut)This album does not have ‘Tubaka’, ‘Jeliké jan’
and ‘Maliens be di yala’, which the final cut does have.

Uit 1971 stamt deze elpee op Editions Syliphone de Conakry.
Drie van de zangers hier gepresenteerd zijn afkomstig uit Guinée.
De vierde is Myriam Makeba die in Guiné woonde met haar toen-
malige echtgenoot Stokely Carmichael. Ze treedt hier wel op met
Quintette Guineen. Desondanks vallen haar twee songs wat uit de
toon. Kortom, zes goede en twee iets minder goede nummers.
From 1971 comes this album on Editions Syliphone Conakry.
Three out of the four singers presented are indeed from Guinée.
The fourth is Myriam Makeba who used to live in Guinée in those
days with her husband Stokely Carmichael. She does appear with
Quitette Guineen. In spite of this her two songs do not match with
the rest of the record. In short, six good and two less good songs.

It was somewhere in 2008 that our French friend Arnaud told
me about compas from Haïti. Until then I hadn’t heard of it.
In the mean time we are 11 years further in time and I col-
lected hundreds of compas records. This is the fifth album
by les Shleu Shleu from 1971 called 6èeme Anniversaire.
Still very grateful Arnaud, are you still following us ? One
way or the other, hope you’re good. We had a few of their
records over the years, see below for them ..

blogvriend Arnaud me introduceerde, tot die tijd had ik nog
nooit van compas uit Haïti gehoord. Ondertussen zijn we 11 jaar
verder en heb ik honderden compas platen verzameld, heerlijk

Weinig Colombiaanse platen gepost de laatste twee maanden.
Daar gaan we weer eens wat aan doen. Om te beginnen heb ik
hier een verzameling Tropical de Colombia en vallenato in ge-
varieerde stijl. Twaalf songs door vier verschillende artiesten.
Prettige verzameling nummers met veel variatie, pompo, pa-
seaito, paseo, guaracha, cumbia, merengue en gaita. Op het
tropical label waarschijnlijk uit de vroege
jaren zeventig. Luister en deel ..
Been posting little Colombian music the past two months, about
time to change the mood a bit in that direction. To start with I
