that track #8 came by I was about to spin through the room, The
diversity in rhythminstruments them Colombians use here, the
halfraw voice… D@*#* , I’ll shut up now so you can go and
listen.. Oh, if anyone knows a year on this one , the group
started in ’55, let us know.

This Luxurous 3 LP Box Set, incl. 20 page booklet from 1975 on Philips
is a true collectors item. Bossa Nova is no type of music that we frequent
at Global Groove, it is more an item for Loronix. I offered it to Zecalouro
from Loronix when I visited him in Rio last year, with all RESPECT Zeca,
I never understood you didn’t use it. I remember going through that
wonderful book on Bossa Nova by Caetano Rodrigues and found
that it was registered there as well.

From Nigeria we have here, King Sunny Adé and his African Beats,
this is Juju music, a laydback smooth type of African music with hummingtalkingdrums, steeley guitars and mellow voices. It’s incredible to hear
18 people play like ONE, beautiful. Ajoo was also released in a European
cut which is very different from this African release. One sidenote; The first
3 numbers are melted together as if they are one, it was very difficult to
cut it into 3 numbers, considering the fact I don’t understand a word they
sing here, I am SURE I cut them completely wrong, please forgive me.

I first heard Aparecida on ‘Roda de Samba’, also from 1975,
(see earlier this past week ) so when I found this record
at that tiny shack, back in Rua 7 de setembro, in Rio, it
made me very happy.Produced by Durval Ferreira and with the
participation of Chicinho de Acordeon this is
a very pure piece of samba.
