Chairman Muo oftewel Obuoba J.A. Adofo. Hij was de leider
van deze briljante Ghanese highlife band. Alle platen van deze
jongens zijn geweldig goed. Als je er eenmaal aan begint is het
moeilijk stoppen met luisteren naar de aanstekelijke highlife.

must have voor elke liefhebber, get it, spread it en luister ..

Obuoba A.J. Adofo was the leader of this brilliant Ghanaian highlife
band. All their records are very good and once you start it is difficult
to stop listening to the infectious highlife they bring. This album,
City Boys in Nigeria, vol. 1, does not lie about it, a must have
for every lover of Ghanaian highlife, get it, spread it & listen ..

Het album verschijnt op Caliente en dat is de muziek
ook zonder enige wijfel, hot hot Colombian gold ..

to paseo and merengue, the sound varies from vallenato
to tropical with singers Armando Hernández, Nacho Paredes

about the music, hot hot Colombian gold ..

Some of the most mellow Nigerian highlife was made by
Chief Stephen Osita Osadebe. He made a huge pile of
records of which I still need to find a bunch. This is number
18 here at the GG, the last one I can offer for now. Let’s
hope, when the covid madness allows us to have another
record fair, more of these sweet Osadebe albums pop up.

Één van de meest relaxte highlife makers uit Nigeria was
zonder twijfel Chief Stephen Osita Osadebe. Hij maakte
een enorme stapel fijne platen waarvan ik er nog flink
wat hoop te vinden in de toekomst. Dit is nummer 18 hier
op de GG en voorlopig de laatste die ik heb. Laten we hopen,
zodra de covid gekte overwaait, en er weer platenbeurzen
mogen worden georganiseerd, dat ik nog veel van deze
Osadebe albums zal tegenkomen. Voor nu, down, deel
en luister met plezier naar de Consistent

Onverwoestbare Ghanese highlife, elke liefhebber is het
erover eens. Van de African brothers krijg je nooit genoeg ..

Nana Ampadu’s African Brothers are once again on the menu
today. We had us some 25 of their records so far. This one is
from 1980. Indestructible Ghanaian highlife, every lover of the
style agrees. You never get enough of the African Brothers ..

Helemaal in het begin van de Global Groove heb ik al eens
twee lp’s met haar geplaatst. De Zwarte Parel, Jovelina
Pérola Negra noemden ze haar. Een vrouw met een stem
als weinig anderen, zo krachtig. De pagode/samba die zij
maakte is dat ook. Liefhebbers kunnen hier niet de mist
in gaan. Deze cd bevat verzamelde werken, enkele van
de nummers stonden al op een van de twee platen die
eerder gepost zijn, anderen hoor je voor het eerst.

Totally at the beginning of the Global Groove, back in
may 2008 I have already posted two albums with her.
The Black Pearl they called her, Jovelina Pérola Negra.
A woman with a voice like almost no one, so powerful.
The pagode/samba she made was nothing less. Lovers
of the genre can’t go wrong here. This cd concerns a
compilation, some of the songs were already on the
two ealier posted records, others are here first time.

It is a short record, only three songs. It’s got some scratches
and background noise. Everything with Ali Chukwumah is gold
however so I couldn’t withhold this little gem. Ali’s highlife is so
contageous, impossible to ignore, been listening to his records
all night. Label and sleeve disagree about the track order, I fol-
lowed the sleeve in this case. Get it and spread it ..
(hope to find a better copy some fine day)
To make up for the bad quality I have added one bonus track.

Het is een kort plaatje, slechts drie songs. Hij heeft flink wat
krassen en achtergrond geluiden. Toch wilde ik je deze niet
onthouden, alles van Ali Chukwumah is goud naar mijn be-
scheiden mening. Zijn muziek is zo aanstekelijk, ik heb de
hele avond naar z’n platen geluisterd. Label en hoes zijn
het niet eens over de volgorde van de nummers, ik heb
dit keer de hoes gevolgd. Down en deel als altijd ..
( hoop ooit een betere versie te vinden)
Om de slechte kwaliteit goed te maken
heb ik een bonus track toegevoegd.

It was originally released in 1972 on the Gay Feet label.
Recorded in the Dynamic Sounds Studios. This is the 1991
re-issue on Attack. Errol Dunkley started out as a 14 year
old youngster in 1965. He worked with Gregory Isaacs, Joe
Gibbs, Coxsone Dodd and others. One of his major hitsingles
was ‘OK Fred’ in 1979 (written by John Holt). Darling Ooh
was his first album in 1972. I’ve added the pics of the original
album to the file. Enjoy listening to Errol
Dunkley’s sweet reggae music ..

Sam Mangwana et l’African All Stars International vol. 1

I first posted this album eleven years ago, in june 2009.
Recording it then, I skipped a small part of the beginning
of track one. About time to do it again and this time better.
The pictures were also made too dark that first time. Sam
Mangwana & the African All Stars deserve to appear on
their very best. I think this is one of the best Congolese
bands ever, with guitar greats Dizzy Mandjekou. Lokassa
ya Mbongo, Syran mbenza, Bopol Mansiamina and Pablo
Lubadika Porthos it stands like a house. This album was
recorded in 1979 on Albarika Store and recorded at EMI
studio , Lagos, Nigeria. The music is in fact Congolese but
being recorded in West-Africa it has a more uptempo
Nigerian-like sound with certain highlife elements.

Ik heb deze plaat aanvankelijk elf jaar geleden gepost,
in juni 2009. Tijdens het opnemen heb ik toen een stukje
aan het begin van het eerste nummer overgeslagen. Hoog
tijd dus om dit eens overnieuw te doen, en nu wel goed. De
foto’s van de hoes waren toen ook iets te donker. Sam Mang-
wana & the African All Stars verdienen het als geen ander om
optimaal uit de bus te komen. Ik vind dat dit een van de beste
Congolese bands ooit is. Met gitaar vituosen als Dizzy Mand-
jekou, Lokassa ya Mbongo, Syran Mbenza, Bopol Mansiamina
en Pablo Lubadika Porthos staat deze band als een huis. Dit
album is uitgebracht op Albarika Store en opgenomen in de
EMI studio’s in Lagos, Nigeria. de muziek is feitelijk Congolees
maar opgenomen in West-Afrika heeft het een snellere
Nigeriaans geörienteerde sound met zekere highlife
invloeden. Luister en huiver, down en deel als altijd ..

We hadden één plaat met General Bolivia Osigbemhe and the
Great Santanas. Deze herdenkings band wordt geleid door twee
jongens met dezelfde achternaam, wellicht zijn zoons. Ik kon er
online niets over vinden. Misschien iemand van jullie. Hoe dan
ook, prettig Etsakor Afenmai album, mis hem niet ..

We had us one record with Bolivia Osigbemhe and the Great
Santanas. This memorial Band is led by two boys with the same
last name, maybe his sons. Online I couldn’t find anything on the
topic, perhaps one of you. One way or the other, another nice
Etsakor Afenmai album, don’t miss it ..
