We vinden Calixto, Felix en Eliecer Ochoa op deze vallenato disc
uit 1975 en op Discos Fuentes. De plaat staat op naam van Calixto
en Felix, Eliecer speelt de accordeon volgens de backsleeve. Twaalf
krachtige nummers van de broers waarvan Calixto de meest bekende
is. Deze plaat dient als afsluiter van de Semana Vallenata, dank voor
het uitzitten, ik had nog weken door kunnen gaan maar morgen doen
we weer iets anders. Variatie houdt het ook voor de anders denkenden

We find calixto, Felix and Eliecer Ochoa on this vallenato disc from 1975
and on Discos Fuentes. The album is on the name of Calixto and Felix,
Eliecer plays the acordeon states the backsleeve of the record. Twelve
strong numbers by the brothers of whom Calixto is the best known one.
This elpee is the closing piece of our Semana Vallenata. thank you for
sustaining, I could have went on for weeks but tomorrow we’ll do

Dat was even balen zeg, breek ik die plaat zo in tweeën, sufferd.
Om deze vijfde dag van de semana vallenata toch bevredigend
af te sluiten krijg je nog een bonus. We hadden al eens het mooie
la Gustadera van de hand van Angel Vásquez, in oktober 2013.
Vandaag het vervolg hierop met de titel ‘Oigan mi Acordeón’.
Een wonderschone plaat die ik eenieder bijzonder aanraad ..
That was a huge bummer, being a little to rough, I broke that record
as if it was a match. Not very smart. Anyway, to make this fifth day
of the semana vallenata to a succes I grant you a bonus. We already
had us the wonderful la Gustadera by the hand of Angel Vásquez in
october 2013. Today its follower up titled ‘Oigan mi Acordeón’.

Fermin Atencio y su Conjunto – Charanga con Sabor

Until now I have posted four vallenato albums this past week and
giving space to six better known artists. The other three days I think
it is a good idea to lend the stage to some lesser known but wonderful
artists. Today I’d like to introduce Fermin Atencio. Unfortunately we can’t
find anything about the man on the world wide web. We’ll have to settle
for the music only.
This elpee is so thin that when I was cleaning it I broke it.
The first three numbers were destroyed. I was lucky I already recorded
track one and two. I didn’t want to cancel the post completely so I
recorded the tracks that were still okay. We lost four tracks.
Tot dusver heb ik vier vallenato albums gepost deze week en daarmee
een podium geboden aan zes tamelijk bekende artiesten. De overige
drie dagen van deze Vallenato Week geven we de aandacht eens aan
iets minder bekende artiesten. Vandaag is de beurt aan fermin Atencio.
Op het web is over hem helaas niets te vinden daarom zullen we het met
de muziek moeten doen.
Deze plaat is zo dun en kwetsbaar dat ik hem tijdens een schoonmaakbeurt
heb gebroken. Stom, stom, ik was te ruw. Ik had gelukkig de eerste twee
nummers al opgenomen want die zijn vernield. Ik wilde de post niet
helemaal opgeven en heb de resterende tracks daarom nog wel
opgenomen. We zijn vier van de twaalf nummers kwijt geraakt.

Andrés Landero y Luis Enrique Martinez

Op deze Bailables Curro No. 2 vinden we songs van twee groten
der vallenato. Slechts twee nummers met Luis Enrique Martinez
maar wel tien met één van de grootste, nl. Andrés Landero. Dit
is een zeldzame vinding, meegebracht uit Colombia door onze
belangrijkste leverancier Sanjay. Bedankt daarvoor weer Sanjay.
De plaat stamt uit 1964, Andrés Landero was 32, desondanks
spreekt men op de hoes van een jonge Landero. Hij was actief
vanaf 1950. In onze Semana Vallenata mochten deze twee
heren zeker niet ontbreken, luister zelf ..
On this Bailables Curro No. 2 we find songs by two great heroes
of vallenato. Only two tracks with Luis Enrique Martinez but a
fortunate ten tracks with one of the greatest, Andrés Landero.
This is another rare find, brought back from Colombia by our
main supplier Sanjay. Thanks a lot again Sanjay. The record
is from 1964, Andrés Landero was 32 years old but at the lp’s
sleeve he is called a young Landero. He was active from 1950.

Sinds enige tijd maak ik met regelmaat een rijtje van zeven
dagen in één bepaalde stijl of uit één bepaald land, een zo-
genaamde thema week. Het ene thema zal je aanspreken,
het andere misschien wat minder. Ik maak ze in elk geval
met veel plezier. De meeste van onze bezoekers komen
uit de Verenigde Staten en op de tweede plaats uit Colombia.
Qua aantallen downloads wint Colombiaanse muziek het van
alle anderen. Deze week staat daarom eens in het teken van
de Vallenato. We beginnen met Adolfo Echeverria, op deze
plaat met Guest Star Don Abundio, hij doet volgens mij de
heerlijke vokalen op deze elpee. Alleen #5 wordt gezongen
door ‘El Mapurito’.. luister ..
Lately I’ve been making these theme weeks on a regular basis.
Seven days of music in a certain style or from a certain country.
You probably will not like every theme, one is more to your liking
than the other, in any case, I make’m with lots of pleasure. Most
of our visitors are from the USA and in second place come the
people of Colombia. If we look at amounts of downloads, the
music from Colombia is more or less the most wanted. This
week therefore we focus on Vallenato, one of my favourite
styles. We start with Adolfo Echeverria & Don Abundio.

Global Groove’s engineers have been working hard, moving
the site and all of its content to another server last week. If
all is good nobody noticed and everything kept working as

Today we continue the normal posting procedure with this
album by Atakorah Manu. One of our visitors compared his
highlife with that of Sir Waziri Oshomah from Nigeria and
got me triggered to pull another Atakorah Manu from the
shelf. An album recorded in Chicago USA. I think it is
difficult comparing Ghanaian and Nigerian highlife,
It is something we all do however, please do, as
it requires a lot of listening ..
Global Groove’s digitale ingenieurs hebben hard gewerkt om
de hele site met al zijn content te verplaatsen naar een andere
server de afgelopen week. Als het goed is heeft niemand er iets
van gemerkt en functioneert alles nog als voorheen. Mocht je
echter ergens iets van verschil ervaren stel ik het op prijs als
je dit even meldt, bij voorbaat dank.
Vandaag gaan we op de oude voet verder met het plaatsen
van een plaatje van Atakorah Manu in dit geval. Een van onze
bezoekers vergeleek zijn muziek onlangs met die van Sir Waziri
Oshomah. Hierdoor kwam ik op het idee een album van Atakorah
uit de kast te trekken en zie hier. Hij werd opgenomen in Chicago
USA. Ik denk dat het moeilijk is Ghanese en Nigeriaanse highlife
met elkaar te vergelijken maar we zijn allemaal geneigd dit te
doen soms. Prima hoor, lekker veel luisteren ..

Seven 7″ de Angola, vol. 1 – Various Artists
Het afgelopen jaar een mooie trip gemaakt naar Lissabon
om Angolese plaatjes te vinden. Vandaag de eerste zeven
7″ singles daar opgedaan. Moeilijk te vinden in Nederland,
iets beter in Portugal maar ook daar moet je wat geluk
hebben. Sla dit zeker niet over ..
Last year I made this little trip to Lisbon to find me some
Angolan records. Today the first seven 7″ singles I found
there. Hard to find in the Netherlands, a little easier in
Portugal but also there one has to be lucky.
Don’t let this go by on you ..
O ano pasado fiz uma viagem em Lisboa para achar discos
de Angola. Hoje os primero sete 7″ singles que comprei aí.
Bem dificel de achar aqui na Holanda, um pouco melhor
em Portugal mas la também tem que ter bastante sorte.

Alhaji Sir Waziri Oshomah & his Traditional

Today I completely lost myself in the music of Waziri Oshomah.
Been listening to his awesome records all day, what a rush. That’s
why I decided to do another record, I just couldn’t resist. The more
I listen and study his albums, the more I get convinced Hassanah
was part of the Waziri family. Same label (some records)and I think
she is on the cover of his album ‘Ota Pea Pea’. One way or the other,
Waziri’s highlife is of a different level, what do you think ?
P.S. When fotographing the label I found out I have an album in
the wrong sleeve. I thought I had ‘Wasemomhe’ but instead it is
the album ‘Jealousy’. Thereby this one is on a different label,
sorry for the confusion .. I took this sleeve from Discogs ..
Vandaag heb ik mezelf volledig verloren in de muziek van Alhaji
Waziri Oshomah. Ik heb de hele dag al naar zijn te gekke platen
geluisterd. Ik zit zo in de Waziri mood dat ik besloot nog maar een
elpeetje te plaatsen. Ik kon me niet inhouden. Hoe meer ik er naar
luister en bestudeer, hoe meer ik denk dat Hassanah een lid was
van de Waziri familie. Hetzelfde label (sommige platen) en zoals
gezegd denk ik dat zij de dame naast Waziri is op zijn album “Ota
Pea Pea’. Hoe dan ook, Zijn highlife is van een
zeldzame klasse, wat vind jij ?
P.S. Toen ik het label fotografeerde kwam ik erachter dat ik een
plaat had in de verkeerde hoes. Ik dacht ‘Wasemomhe’ te hebben
maar het bleek ‘Jealousy’ te zijn. Bovendien zit deze plaat dus op
een ander label. Het spijt me voor de verwarring .. Ik heb deze
hoes bij Discogs geleend ..

Madam Hassanah Waziri & Her Velvet Voice

Op dag zeven van onze Nigeriaanse Week, een tamelijk
opmerkelijke plaat. Ik weet niet zeker of hij onder de noemer
highlife of afenmai valt. Ik heb hem dan ook maar onder Nigeria
gefiled. Sowieso komen we uit dit land maar bar weinig vrouwelijke
artiesten tegen, we hebben er slechts ènkele eerder gezien
hier op de Global Groove. Madam Hassanah Waziri heeft
zoals de titel reeds verklapt inderdaad een fluwelen stem.
Heerlijk atmosferische sound, ideaal voor uw zondagmiddag.
Er is helaas weinig meer informatie aanwezig over het album
of de relatie, als die er al is, met Sir Waziri Oshomah.
Op zijn platen horen we wel een tweede stem die verdomd
veel op de hare lijkt en op haar plaat een tweede stem
die veel op die van hem lijkt ..
On day seven of our Nigerian Week, a quite remarkable record.
I am not sure if the style is called highlife or afenmai, I have filed
it under Nigeria to be sure. We do not find a whole lot of female
artists from this country anyhow, we have only seen a few here
at the Global Groove so far. Madam Hassanah Waziri has indeed
a warm velvet voice as the title already suggests. Nice atmospheric
sound, ideal for your quiet sunday afternoon. No more information
is available on this album or what relationship, if any, the artist has
with Sir Waziri Oshomah. We do hear a second voice on his records
that sounds a lot like hers, and on her album a
second voice that sounds like his ..
