Migan Celestin – Wonderful of Africa

Migan Celestin from Benin appears on this 1970’s album with
his sublime guitar play. Great sound. The record features Danialou
Sagbohan on drums and backing vocals. It seems this music is also
called soukous although I don’t think of it in that way. It is from 1979.
Migan Celestin was also called Mig Tino..
Migan Celestin uti Benin is hier met dit 70’s album waarop hij geweldig
gitaar speelt. Heerlijk geluid. De plaat laat verder op drums horen,
Danialou Sagbohan, tevens achtergrond vokalen. Het schijnt dat dit
ook soukous wordt genoemd, ik zou het zo niet willen noemen.

They called him The Shining Star, Mr. A.A.A. or Akwasi Ampofo-Adjei.
He was the composer and arranger of Kumapim Royals of who we have
this 1986 album here today. We had some six of their records earlier.
Released on Brobisco, produced by A.K. Brobbey.

Hij was de man die de nummers schreef en de arrangements voor zijn
rekening nam bij de Kumapim Royals van wie we hier het zesde album
op onze GG hebben. Uit 1986, op Brobisco, produced by A.K. Brobbey.

He used to be Chef d’Orchestre of l’Afrisa International with the
great Tabu Ley, Rochereau. This is his first solo project of which
we don’t know the year of release. Brought by Appolo Music from
Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. I think Philo Kola is from Congo, correct me
if I’m wrong though. A solid listen to my humble opinion..
Hij was eens de Chef d’Orchestre van l’Afrisa International van
niemand minder dan Tabu ley, Rochereau. Dit is zijn eerste solo
elpee waarvan het jaar van uitgave niet bekend is. Op het Appolo
Music label uit Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. Volgens mij komt Philo Kola
zelf uit Congo maar corrigeer me s.v.p. als ik er naast zit. Een plaat
zeer de moeite van het beluisteren naar mijn bescheiden mening..

Aniceto Molina is hier vandaag met een bijzondere gaste. Het
betreft de vrouw met de onverwoestbare stem, Lucy Gonzalez
oftewel Lucy ‘La Tabaquera’. We hebben het al eerder over haar
gehad. Ze is hier op meerdere platen terug te vinden, met Combo
los Galleros, met Antolin y su Combo Orense en met Lucho Campillo
onder andere. Ik heb er als bonus tracks de songs bijgevoegd met Antolin
waaraan ze de naam ‘La Tabaquera’ heeft over gehouden.. genieten..
Aniceto Molina is here today with a very special guest. It concerns the
woman with indestructible voice, Lucy Gonzalez or Lucy ‘La Tabaquera’.
We spoke about her on earlier occasions. You can find her on records
with Combo Los Galleros, with Antolin y su Combo Orense and with Lucho
Campillo among others. As bonus tracks I have added the songs with Antolin

Drie albums in de Innovation serie hadden we reeds, vandaag
nummer vier. Het is volume 3 met Assaka Baba Ley en Bopol
Mansiamina. Twee van de songs zijn geschreven door Kiland L.M.
waarvan ééntje met Bopol samen. Mooi gedoseerde Congolese
rumba/soukous. Op het Innovation label uit 1981..
Three of the albums in the Innovation series were here on earlier
occasions, today we have number four. It concerns volume 3 with
Assaka Baba Ley and Bopol Mansiamina. two of the songs were
written by Kiland L.M. of which one together with Bopol. Nicely
dosed Congolese rumba/soukous. on Innovation, from 1981..

Today’s post concerns a special request by Juan. Orquesta Revé
is one of my favourites as well. It just so happens I recently found
a couple of their records among which this one. Mi Salsa Tiene
Sandunga means so much as my salsa is spicy. Elio Revé Matos
is the father of the Changüi style, his salsa is truly different
from all others. The group is still active today but is being
led by Elio’s son Elito. Saw them in Amsterdam a few years
ago at the Roots Festival, blue skies, outdoor, very nice..
Vandaag een post op speciaal verzoek door Juan. Orquesta Revé
is ook altijd één van mijn favorieten geweest. Toevallig heb ik kort
geleden een aantal van hun platen gevonden waaronder deze.
Mi Salsa Tiene Sandunga wil zoveel zeggen als mijn salsa heeft pit.

I tell you straight away, it has some background noise so if you’re
allergic to it, better leave this one alone. For everybody else, the
music is very nice. Just imagine you’re listening to it by the fire side.
This one is for you Nick, and thanks for the other one. This is an album
I can’t seem to find anything about, not googlable so to speak. It is
worth at least a couple of spins to my opinion though, listen..
Ik zeg het maar meteen, deze plaat kraakt wel een beetje dus als je
daar allergisch voor bent zou ik hem niet downloaden. Voor iedereen
die daar niet mee zit, de muziek is erg aangenaam. Doe gewoon net of
je er naar luistert bij de open haard. Deze is voor jou Nick en bedankt
nog voor die andere. Over deze elpee kan ik online niets vinden, hij is
zogezegd niet googlebaar. Ik denk dat hij het beluisteren waard is..

Uit 1983 hebben we nog zo’n casette met Youssou N’Dour en de
Super Etoile de Dakar. De laatse werd zeer goed ontvangen. Pak
ook deze weer mee, de tapes zijn niet heel makkelijk te vinden..

Super Etoile de Dakar. The one we had shortly was very succesful.
Get this one as well, these tapes are not very easy to find..

Pedro Beltran y su Cumbia

The sound we present today is Colombian but quite different from
most we have had so far. I’m not sure if it is called gaita. In any case
it is no regular cumbia eventhough the group’s name is ‘su Cumbia’.
On the web I saw they called it Cumbia Moderna. It is comparable
with the sound of ‘Cumbia Siglo XX’ which we had in january 2017.
It is very popular with deejays of world music nowadays.
Also called Palenque, Champeta Criolla, Afro Roots..
De sound die we vandaag aan u voordragen is Colombiaans maar
tamelijk anders dan de meeste tot nu toe. Ik weet niet zeker of dit
nu gaita wordt genoemd. In ieder geval is het geen reguliere cumbia
zoals de naam van de band doet vermoeden. Ik zag online dat het
Cumbia Moderna werd genoemd. Het is enigszins te vergelijken
met het geluid van ‘Cumbia Siglo XX’ welke we in januari 2017
hadden. Tamelijk populair bij hedendaagse wereld muziek dj’s.

Ik moet hoog nodig inlopen met de Samplers die verwijzen naar
hoogtepunten in het oeuvre van de Global Groove. Met deze vol.62
bereiken we december 2016 en lopen dus zo’n twee jaar achter op
de feiten. Voordeel is dat je op deze manier weer even wordt gewezen
op al het moois uit het verleden en terug blikt op vervlogen tijden. Toch
ga ik er nog een paar maken om iets dichterbij het heden te geraken.

It is time to catch up with the Samplers which point to the highlights

Macario Prudencia y Continental Combo
Bros-Bros, FAC Records 1978
Way back in 2008 we had one album from Curaçao, one of
the Dutch Antilles. Today the second here at the GG. Macario
Prudencia comes in with this strong piece of I don’t know how
to call it. When I found it they told me it is salsa but I don’t think
this is the right description for this type of music. What ever the
proper name is, it sounds wonderful. Happy dancing tunes..
Zo’n tien jaar terug alweer hadden we eens een plaatje uit Curaçao.
Vandaag hebben we dan eindelijk een vervolg. Macario Prudencia en
Continental Combo zijn hier met een sterk staaltje, ja wat eigenlijk..
Toen ik de plaat vond werd me verteld dat het salsa is maar ik denk
dat dit niet helemaal de juiste beschrijving is voor dit soort muziek.
Hoe het ook heten mag, het klinkt heerlijk. Blije dans tunes..
